Used to go to Maro beach a lot, but it's a bit awkward to get to with little ones in tow. Like Cabopino beach for the kids, but really don't go to beaches very often at all.
Finally really and properly living in Andalucia.

Yes, saw a similar report in the national press recently, doesn't make for good reading, does it? As I said in another thread, how can somewhere like Nerja, complete with raw sewage, get a blue and a black flag! We're not beach people,but have seen most of them, and wouldn't really rate many on the CDS, much better Costa de La Luz way.

the black flags seem to be given by "green group Ecologistas en Accion " who if they had their way wouldn´t even let us live in brick houses (even though they themselves live in brick houses)..they want the world to go back to being as it was before man arrived..and I think it´s a little bit late for that now...I´m all for being "green", but we still have to live on this planet, our very presence upests the green groups.

Yes, the ecologists give black flags for various reasons, but in my example, Nerja, it was "blacked" for raw sewage. I'm certainly no tree hugging ecologist, but I'm with them on this one!
The Axarquia was given a single flag by the environmental group, but this was to cover the entire stretch from Rincon de la Victoria to Nerja. This was after bathers complained of “the constant presence of waste material, including excrement, floating in the sea.”
There are, however, six black spots: principally at the mouth of the Chillar river in Nerja, where raw sewage is allowed to flow into the sea;

yeah, jeepers Julian, I don't think it's a very good example of "do-gooders ruining it for everyone" when they complain about raw sewage in the sea!
After a rainy day you often get a slick of sewage along all of the beaches in Nerja. It's pretty disgusting and certainly deserves pointing out by those awarding these blackflags.
Hopefully if enough people complain then something will be done about it.
