I have a good friend from Australia who is visiting Badajoz for the food processing company he works for. He has a few extra days and would like to visit our good selves in Cádiz, before returning to Lisbon to pick up his schedule. However he is not keen on driving here. What I would like to know, if anyone can help, is:
a) What are the public transport options from Badajoz to Sevilla? I know the options from Sevilla to Cádiz. Which bus company operates from Badajoz?
b) What is the best and most economic way to get from Sevilla to Lisbon, without travelling to Madrid?
Hope someone can help.
Thanks
Bob

Re: Sevilla to Lisbon....
I know you said "without travelling via Madrid" but, I would think that is the most practical way of doing the journey overland.
The night sleeper train leaves Lisbon at 22.30 and arrives in Madrid at 9.03 the next morning. Change to high speed AVE train to Seville and then onwards by local train to Cadiz - see
http://www.renfe.com/
There is a coach service from Lagos in the Algarve directly to Seville which runs 4 times a day in the summer- see:
http://www.rede-expressos.pt/
There are frequent services between Lisbon and Lagos according to the site.
Presumably there are also direct flights from Lisbon to Madrid and maybe even to Seville.

Re: Sevilla to Lisbon....
http://www.avanzabus.com
The site has an English click so everything can be searched AND booked in English.
Lisboa to Badajoz has two departures a day 10.30 and 20.15 and costs €30.60.
The 'express' seems to take a long time going (4 hours) but the return is two hours.
It might depend on the day of travel.
Then get the train from Badajoz to Mérida. There are lots of trains to choose from.
http://www.renfe.es/horarios/english/index.html
From Mérida there is a regular bus service to Sevilla from the bus station (over the Lusitania Bridge on the other side of the Guadiana but it's not far from the train station). Lots of friends use this bus service when visiting us when flying into Sevilla.
It's not hard to sort out but going to Madrid and back will take ages and ... why?

Re: Sevilla to Lisbon....
Thanks very much for the replies.
We had looked at the flights but it seems a non starter. They are either overly expensive, or they don't fly direct so take all day.
The train seems to be the option from Badajoz to Merida, and then the bus on to Sevilla then Cádiz.
After visiting us my friend is going on to Italy, so I have suggested he try rearrange his flight from Madrid rather than going back to Lisbon.
Thanks again
ps Lavanda I had previously looked on the main RENFE site and couldn't find any trains from Badajoz..... but your link worked! Don't know why.

Re: Sevilla to Lisbon....
Does anyone know the name of the bus company that runs buses from Mérida to Sevilla? I'm trying to get a timetable.
Is there only one direct train from Mérida to Sevilla per day?

Use this link to locate Mérida bus station and contact them:
http://www.transporteextremadura.com/dh ... ciones.php
or look under Buscador and choose Mérida and Sevilla. Sevilla has two bus stations that the Mérida bus goes to. There are several buses a day. All information is on-line at the above link.
Good luck!
