Trees turning in the Sierra de Aracena, Huelva.

Postby Kathy » Sat Sep 19, 2009 6:03 pm

Last year a friend said that in the Sierra de Aracena there were some beautiful Autumn scenes with spectacular red and orange tones in the leaves, I didn´t make it up there last year, but would like to make the trip this fall. Any idea when is the best week to visit?

Any forum members based in this area?

Just been on a day trip on the train from Calanas, up past Jabuco into the sierras - no changing of colours yet - in fact there are many green shoots and fresh bright leaves as they soak up the recent rain. You'll have to put it off for a bit longer I think.

We are not far enough up in the hills to help - we have eucalyptus, pines, olives and evergreen oaks here :) . You need the chestnuts, deciduous oaks, poplars, vines, etc. You might like to get in touch with an english/spanish family who run the finca la Fronda which is between Jabuco and Arecena - email info@fincalafrondacom. With their interest in promoting tourism in that area, they might be happy to help/advise.
Cheers
