Cheap travel passes for non-resident pensioners

Postby concorde » Sat May 01, 2010 4:39 pm

I know I read about this topic here but can't find it in the search box

Someone mentioned being able to get reduced fare travel passes for buses and trains for non-residents over 60
My O.H. doesn't believe that Spain would do this but I'm positive I read it here

Hi Enrique, many thanks for that. I always mean to keep these very informative posts but then forget where I saw them.

I wonder if the local town hall does the same for bus passes for non-residents, shouldn't think so but may enquire next time we are over.

I'm not quite ready for one yet mind, My O.H. is nearer than me and he's terrified that whichever party wins next weeks election will scrap free prescriptions etc before he's had a chance to get his

You are talking about the tarjeta de oro, apply at your local town hall - it is for people of State pension age only, think that means 65 plus over here.

I used mine recently to get a discount of about €60 on some new specs.

For train travel, the tarjeta dorada is for anyone over 60.
There is also the pensionista card for residents over 65.
The two cards are different.

Thanks lisa for that. I've just googled the tarjeta dorada and it is definitely for non-residents over 60.

I realise if you were planning a rail journey well in advance if wouldn't probably be worth it, however, there would be a good savings on a last minute journey.
