Just a reminder for non-residents to check their EHIC for renewal, saw a post about this somewhere and reminded me.
Checked, and ours is due up in September, took about 3 mins to renew it on-line and they deliver new ones in 7 days. Apparently you can renew them up to 6 months before they expire.
I honestly didn't think ours were due for a couple of years yet, as hopefully you never need to use them.
Don't forget to renew your EHIC

Re: Don't forget to renew your EHIC
Thank you for that concord. Wouldn't have thought of looking at them and by that time we would have been over there for the winter!
Re: Don't forget to renew your EHIC
It's easy to think you may never need them, however, a couple of years ago my O.H. collapsed on arrival at Granada airport. After over 8 hrs of tests and observation, he was released and we carried on with our holiday.
I had showed his EHIC on arrival at the hospital but they didn't take much notice. However we did get a bill from the hospital and passed it on. I can't remember if it was for the ambulance or the tests but we didn't have to pay.
For the sake of a couple of minutes on-line, it is worth it.

Concorde....Thanks for that tip....Much Appreciated ...
I mentioned it to my sons, and both found they had 'expired' cards, they applied straight away for new cards and both received them within 4 days...

Re: Don't forget to renew your EHIC
I'm a new member so please allow for this if I'm being naive, but I googled EHIC and found the site where you obtain (or renew) your EHIC. However, there also seems to be other sites which will "Process" your EHIC application for a fee. Clearly these people are just out to make money, but everyone should remember that applying for the EHIC is free if you go to the official source which is:
https://www.ehic.org.uk/Internet/home.do
Like I say sorry if this is a bit of a naive post, I daresay most people will know it is supposed to be free but some people may click on the top google result and be fooled into paying a fee when they shouldn't
Anyway as a result of this forum I applied for mine and received it a couple of days later, so thanks for the advice!

Re: Don't forget to renew your EHIC
Yes but only covered for EMERGENCY treatment if you are not a pensioner. Anyone else needs to take out travel insurance if they are visitors, or pay into the system if you are living in Spain. Take the case of the woman who broke her back in Greece and thought they were covered by the EHIC - they weren't and had to pay for her treatment and specialist flight back to the UK. Beware.
