Can you bring fuel into Spain from Gibraltar?
Obviously I mean in a container rather than the tank?

I am probably missing something here but last time I was in Gib the fuel was not much different in price from Spain so sorry if I ask a silly question why do you want to bring a container of it across ? unless you mean a huge container as in ferry type size.

I think the saving on deisel is about 15 cents a litre; not to be sniffed at.

I can't think why not.
However all fuel has to be carried in vehicles in an approved container and there may be a limit on the amount.
Probably 2 x 5 litre plastic containers, but don't quote me!

It's some time ago but I was stopped at the border with a 5 litre can in the boot and had to pay duty/tax on it.
What really annoyed me was that I had bought it in Spain!
The law now allows you to bring in up to 10 litres in a portable container.

Does sound like a saving if you don't have far to go to get

Sounds to me that if you bring back the limit of 10 ltrs, at a saving of 15 cents / ltr, you would use more fuel on the journey, and it will take a few trips to recoup the cost of the can !!

It's not really worth the bother for a couple of euro OK if you could bring a tanker through
I used to do a monthly shop there and fill up on the way out

Is that 10 litres per car, or per person?

Just make sure your tank is empty when entering GIB and also fill your 10 litre can and it may be worth doing.

It doesn't actually say 'per vehicle' in your link.
What happens if you walk in with your 10 litre container & walk out again ? No different to 7 people in an MPv having a container each. Be on the safe side get them to walk out !

Re: Can you bring fuel into Spain from Gibraltar?
If you read the link it implies that it must be carried in the vehicle. The position of the comma in the sentence is critical.
If you want to carry a can out as a pedestrian let us know how you get on.

Alan, sorry I will be shouted down for this but if you seriously need to save 15 cents per litre on fuel then it's time to get a a bike!!
Even if you use 100 ltrs per week, which would suggest mileage of 1000 km you will still be saving only 15 euros, sorry I don't get it, no doubt the "little house on the prairie" gang will be along soon to accuse me of being someone else but my statement stands !!

Not me, I'm with you on this one. Only this one, mind! The thought of going to that trouble just to save a euro or two is baffling!Bowler wrote:Alan, sorry I will be shouted down for this but if you seriously need to save 15 cents per litre on fuel then it's time to get a a bike!!
