Now, if they ever get round to renovating that, I think the train to El Chorro would be packed with tourists from all over the world. Surely some enterprising millionaire could strike a deal with the Junta/Ferrovial to get it done?
It's on the cards, but you'll need to wait a while! Apparently, they have the €9 million needed and it was due to start this year, finishing in 2016.

An update - the train from Malaga (dep 10.05) to Ronda now stops additionally at Cartama (10.19) and Pizarra (10.28) as well as Alora (10.34). The return train late afternoon also stops at these stations.

 Thanks for the up-date!I wish they would do it with the Seville tren as well, they could do away with the C2 if they did!

But that would considerably reduce the number of trains to and from Malaga especially during the week! I sometimes wish the C2 service was more frequent than the current (mostly) hourly service.

That is very true but there is some threat to the C2 and that could be an alternative.
I can never understand why they don't stop the Seville units at the pricipal stations on the run into and out of Malaga anyway, they stop at all the most insignificant little Halts into Seville and it would only add a few minutes to the journey time. It would save passengers having to travel into town to catch a train that then retraces the route past where they started from. Dammned annoying :x

To reply to both your questions, Beryl - no you do not need to change trains to travel from Álora to Ronda, it is a direct service. The train station in Ronda is a long walk from the town centre (25 minutes or so, I'd say). There are probably buses which would take you into the centre, but last time I went we got a taxi from outside the station, it cost around €8 if I remember rightly.

It's quite a pleasant walk via the main shopping street (and cafes).

Beryl, you can catch the Ronda tren in Piz. if that's better for you.
