Do You Spain/Malagacar

Postby Nimrod » Mon Aug 18, 2014 9:20 am

I was doing some car hire comparisons for a forthcoming visit and noticed that on the DYS site the option to pay on arrival is no longer there,it is now prepay.
Has anyone done this and if so do they actually take the money at time of internet booking or on collection at the airport.
Comparisons had DYS half the price of Malagacar

We used Malagacar this year in May and they were one of the cheapest however I have noticed that they have suddenly become less competitive. We have since used two other car hire companies who were half the price and had no problems at all.

Personally I think its because they have become more popular as they don't rip you off on the fuel.

There's a lot of fuel to be bought between 92 and 208 euros.
Mid Sept things should be slacking off,car hire should be cheaper but DYS seem to have deleted their pay at airport option.
Although the website says it's available there is no option.

Maybe try enonomycarrentals, I think you pay a deposit on line and then pay the balance on arrival, also they are around the same rates as DYS and offer free 2nd driver.

Hi morlandg

Stop messing about and simply go to Helle Hollis - as mentioned zillions of times on this forum, full/full fuel policy; reliable bus transfer from airport to their garage opposite San Miguel brewery ( 5 minutes or less), helpful, friendly staff, clean cars, and if you want to, sign up to their Home Owners Club for 15% discount off rental rates.

IMHO beats all of the others hands down - but I've been using them since time began (or thereabouts).
Sorry meant to say, they don't charge you upfront, you can cancel without penalty, pay in Sterling or Euros etc etc......

The equivalent car from Helle Hollis for my 3 weeks is 450 euros as opposed to 92.

I 'll put up with having a row to save 300+ euros

Okey Doke
I guess that all T&C and fuel policies are identical.
I'm always happy to be proved wrong.
But then I prefer going to the hire company desk and walking away having signed etc in about two minutes.

Got to agree with you zanuck,I'd prefer not to wait but the price difference is just too great.
I've used Advantage /Firefly for a while and they're ok,longest I've had to wait is probably 20 minutes.

Booked a rental car for a week with Goldcar via DoYouSpain with full/full fuel policy. There seems to be no way to contact and ask if we still need to pay any admin fee concerning fueling.
... too many small letters these days ...

I will post the experience with DYS/Goldcar in 2-3 weeks, but if someone already had a good/bad experience ... please do share.

You might want to think again.
Google goldstar car hire complaints and see what comes up.
Possibly the worst car hire company in Spain

Yep Nimrod. I am already thinking hard as I read another post here that was specifically about Goldcar. Most likely I am going to cancel the booking.

Nimrod - that's a bit unfair - if you Google any outfit coupled with the word 'complaints' of course you are not going to get any happy customers!

Friends have used Goldcar regularly with absolutely no problems at all.

Its worth remembering that people are far more likely to complain when reviewing a service than to praise - if you are happy with a company, the natural response (sadly) is to say nothing as all went as expected. Only people with an axe to grind tend to report their experiences.

I don't think my comment on goldcar was unfair at all.
Of course there are complaints about all rental companies but Goldcar do seem to top the unpopularity list.
