Fit to Fly

Postby Mobylette63 » Fri Jul 09, 2021 1:52 pm

Hi, Does anyone know if its possible to get a suitable test to fly to UK on the actual departure day? I know there are 15 minutes tests at the airport so if you booked before your flight departure time is that ok? Or does it have to be within the 3 days prior to departure? Just trying to figure away of not making extra trip to the airport or test centre

Depending where you are based on the day is available in Fuengirola, Malaga city (El Palo) and Benalmadena port. I wouldn’t rely on the airport testing centre as it is unreliable.

I used the testing centre at Malaga airport however pepe jose is right to warn people about it. If you do not have an appointment then you will be waiting in a queue for the best part of the day and if you have a flight to catch the same day then forget it. Appointments go very quickly, i arranged ours 2weeks before we left to go to Spain and even then it was fully booked. The only appointment left was for 3pm and our flight was at 5.30pm. I was cutting it a bit too close but we turned up at the appointment 40 mins early and joined the appointments only line, by the time we were done it was 3pm and the result came through 20mins later. We were lucky that everything fell into place. As passenger numbers grow the queues will get longer, i have already booked our appointments for Sept, this time 2 days in advance of departure, the trial run taught me not to leave it too late. The website for booking is running very slow, it seems to take forever just waiting to get from one page to another, at least 10 to 15mins for each person and if you are trying to book in a few people then you have to do each one separately, it took all of an hour to book for 4 people. If it gets much busier i can see it crashing and there will be many frustrated people.

I went on to try and book an appointment for my sister, she wanted to take her test near to the same time as the rest of us, funny that the time slots which we booked are now showing as available, i booked the last appointments available for the time slots we chose. They are either now getting greedy and double booking or they are expanding, i hope it's the latter.

Are you currently in Spain mobylette63? The only reliable way I've found is to get a test kit in the UK before departure from the UK, take it with you and you do the (lateral flow) test under video supervision (Facetime or similar) before returning to the UK. They send you the result/certificate by email.
But if anyone knows better ways, I'm very interested to hear!

Dont think that would work in Spain. Needs to be a recognised Spanish clinic.

Are you confident of getting a result before you fly. No hold-ups with the results when busy?

There has been some horror stories, difficult to know which are reliable. Gibraltar was excellent through in less than 15 mins. Of course there is also the chance you get a positive result.

That is very true Katy, i did wait nervously for my result even though i had taken care, so much can go wrong, all it takes is one person in a travelling family to test positive or have a false positive and it puts the whole family in a dilemma.

I've been saying this for a while. Why it's not regulated I don't know ..... although I'm sure their excuse would be "due to Covid ....."

Seems like anyone can buy in loads of test kits from China and set themselves up to do this. A very nice little money-earner.

We arrived back yesterday to the uk. Obviously had the pretest and ordered the day 2 and 8 tests. But are we still to isolate after the 19th? I understand we have to do the tests but do we have to isolate - because those entering uk from Spain on Monday only need the pre test and day 2 test.

This question will also come up when august 16th comes along..Will the double jabbed who were pinged on the 15th still have to self isolate for the full 10days while those pinged the day after won't have to self isolate.
