New PCR ruling.

Postby jonbar.1 » Mon Nov 29, 2021 9:22 am

I understand that when we visit UK we have to "Isolate" until we produce a "negative" PCR result.
Perhaps I'm a bit dim, but how do we Isolate at Leeds Bradford Airport? :?
Also: Do we have to wait until "Day 2" to take the test?
:?

You take the test within 48 hours of landing and isolate at home or hotel until you get the results. I will take a test as soon as I am home, post and wait for results which are usually 24 hours. The perfect scenario would be take one in Malaga pre departure at private clinic but that way the uk companies lose out on another massive earner.

Thanks Costakid.
The fact that we can take a test as soon as we arrive is good news.I originally thought it had to be "Day 2" specifically.
I like the idea of getting results in 24hrs; any tips on who might supply this service?

You'll presumably need to use one of the suggested providers, as you did for the LFT and the PCR tests previously, through the gov.uk website. You'll need the order number to put onto your UK passenger locator form. https://www.gov.uk/find-travel-test-provider

More info on their site "What you must do if you arrive in England after 4am 30 November
If you are fully vaccinated and arrive in England after 4am Tuesday 30 November, you:

must self-isolate
take a PCR test before the end of day 2 after you arrive (lateral flow tests will not be accepted)
can leave self-isolation if your PCR test result is negative"
https://www.gov.uk/guidance/travel-to-e ... 0-november

Thanks Wicksey.
I'd got all that. The gov listed 350 testers in the area I selected.(Only the names).Despite enteting "North Yorkshire" as my choice area; most of the list were London!
I wanted information on price, how quick, and how it works.I have tried phoning 10 of these centres to ask,but have not got through to any of them.
I would ideally like an appointment where we could physically call in, and get the results in 24hrs.
We arrive in UK on Xmas Eve.We are staying with our family only until the 28th ( we are staying elswhere after that). This gives us 3+ days to be tested and get the results :?
Using Royal Mail on those days is a non-starter.

Cerulean Health Ltd and Excalibur were the ones my sister and I used for LFT recently on return from Spanish holiday. Presume they do PCR. Have the tests sent to your relatives now.

Thanks for the info Maureen;
As explained, the problem is:
Even if they send the kits to the family address, in time for us to action, when we arrive on Xmas Eve, we would still only have 3+ days to send them back & get the results ( the worst 3 days of the Royal-Mail year!)...This is why we need a walk-in centre with 24hr results.
These places do exist , unfortunately they are not contactable by phone ( to clarify points before booking)

Oh, and the latest is that wales and scotland are trying to persuade Bojo to make it 8 days quarantining and day 2 and day 8 PCR tests. We're no longer risking it so have cancelled our trip to spain. Tried to reschedule our flights to march with Ryanair but cost of transfer was £90 each. The march flights i'm looking at are £75 each! Covid and ryanair - the gifts that keep on giving.

jonbar.1, look at your nearest Boots. They did a local, pre-appointment for me when I came back to Spain in August. You can get the test when it suits you if you plan the appointment, and results come in less than 24 hours.

Sadly Boots are in the UK.We can't just go in when we arrive we have to book before we depart & enter appointment on our PLF ,here in Spain.
In any event,as I said before; we arrive on Xmas Eve.
Will Boots do it on 25th or 26th Dec.?

Lavanda. Thanks for mentioning Boots.I've just phoned the Leeds branch ( where we are staying). They do PCR tests.Although it is unlikely that we will get a walk-in/ 24hr service; they may be the next best thing.

Ah. I see. Obviously you can book the appointment from here and put the reference number on your locator form but I do not know if they will have an 'emergency' service. Labs would also need to be open.

The chap,in the pharmacy,I spoke to suggested I call back in a few days; when they have all the new directives on place.
I assume we do the tests with the kits they send out to us.We then send them back. Not sure what happens after that.
It would be good if they emailed the confirmed result.

Best idea. One at Gatwick Is efficient and do it whilst sat in your car. Used them twice and got result within a few hours by text.

That sounds a much better option and less stressful. What a price though ... back to the rip off tests!
