Almodovar Castle

This has been on my bucket list for ages.

Ticked off last week. About 25 km west of Cordoba. It wasn’t open when we went so no one about. We drove right up to the front gate. Parked ( free) and then walked round the rough path right around the base of the castle. Couple of benches to sit on and admire the splendid views and a golden eagle at eye level when we were there.

Afterwards we partook of serviceable refreshments at the Asador el Campero opposite the entrance.

Well worth the diversion and for Game of Thrones fans a must. More info here https://www.andalucia.com/province/cord ... -almodovar

Earlier we went to the Medina Azahara on the hillside near Cordoba. Bit of a shock as the last time we went ( 15 years ago) you just rocked up at the entrance above the ruins. Now there is a huge visitor centre below the ruins. Free parking and free entry for holders of residence. The cafe sadly was not open but the museum was interesting. A green bus takes you up to the old entrance and back for about 150 cents. Amazing ruins for a city that only lasted 70 years approx. A lot of the ashlars were robbed to make the nearby “ monastery”
