Car Hire recommendations

Postby slamminhammo » Thu Jan 20, 2022 3:33 pm

Hi All
thanks for your previous replies regartding my trip to Costa Tropical next month.
Dp you have any recommendations who to use for car hire?
I am reading some awful reviews for some companies at Malaga airport.
I have my own excess insurance so never buy the overpriced "full insurance" package.
Any and all advice welcomed
Thanks in advance

Hellie hollis and malagacar seem to be the most popular and respected companies at the airport.

We have ferried and driven over for the past six years or so, but previously always used Helle Hollis and had UK purchased car rental excess insurance, but I thought that had all come to an end with Brexit, and that UK insurance companies couldn't provide that cover for use with car rentals in Spain.

Am I wrong?

We expect to start coming by air again later in the year, so car rentals (and insurance) will be on the cards.

It's us Spanish residents that can be longer use the UK car excess insurance companies unfortunately as I always did for car hire in England. UK residents are still covered for Europe as before.

Thanks Cadiz

And thanks Wicksey, I checked the company that I used to use until we started driving to the Axarquia, Insurance4carhire and to my surprise they still offer a one year/multi-trip cover for £46.99 which is only a little above what I paid until 2016 when we last rented a car.

Good to have clarified it, apologies that my memory failed on which way round the situation has become.

All three of those are easily found if you google car hire malaga. Main thing I would check is the big deposit some of these take from your card.

yes both have desks (and cars) in the airport, they do the preliminary 1100eu 'block' on the card which is not debited or charged but you must have the credit limit available. This is assuming you don't take their excess insurance

Crazy prices in 2021 due to car shortage, I think they made the most of it though.

Of the budget bunch OK are ok, cargest not too bad. In both cases they don’t force too much their rip off insurance. I am pathologically scarred by goldcar and delpaso, but they might have improved.
