Fewer Brits coming

Postby katy » Mon Nov 27, 2006 2:34 pm

Today in Sur

Briefly, "Figures from Málaga airport for Oct. show a continuing fall in the British and german market which has been happening throughout the year. The drop in passengers up to Oct is 2,39 from UK and 5,99% from Germany compared to figures for last year.

Maybe they are fed up with all the hassle of travelling, especially to Málaga, and being ripped off by the airport taxi drivers.

When it's all finished Málaga airport will probably turn out to be the biggest white elephant in the whole of Andalucía.

Could be just that Jerez and Granada airports have taken some of the travelers.

A friend who arrived recently, albeit at about 2am, was charged €50 by an airport taxi driver to go to the Hotel Ibis!!!

One of the reasons for the fall in tourists could be the fall of the Dollar against Sterling.

A number of people who work with me now think nothing of popping of to New York for a long week-end, whilst a year or so ago they may have spent the time in Spain.

The Uk tourist figures are for the first 9 months of the year, the dollar only started its fall a couple of weeks ago. In January I only got $1.77 to Uk pound and in September $1.87 so I doubt this would lower UK. tourism figures. Its true that you do get more for your money in the USA though and in quality and service too. The last hotel I stayed in there included flat screen computer in room with 24 hour free access for far less than the price of a (allegedly) 4 star hotel on the CDS.
