Do you have a house name for your place in spain?

Do you have a query on how to get things done in Andalucia, where to find things, who to call? Find out by posting and hear about others experiences.

Ours is "La Alacena" because that is just about how big it is.

We were going to call it "La Conejera" (Rabbit Hutch) and had even bought the little ceramic tiles, when someone pointed out it also meant brothel. Luckily we only had to go back for an L and 2 A's so it wasn't a complete disaster.

What are yours called and why ?

Rick G

P.S. If anyone wants to call their house ORJE, I've got the tiles.

Casa La Alegria - corny I know, but the story is that when young girls the previous owner and her sister were always happy & laughing. Their Father therefore came up with the name

Surely if you want a foreign name, to sound romantic, you should call it something in English? Most of the attempts at Spanish are dubious in their accuracy anyway - the sometimes seen "Casa Bonita Vista" instead of "Casa Vista Bonita" etc, and the poor grammar of "Los Golandrinas" - no idea on gender, some folk!

One near here is named casa al fin, its in 13000 m2 and 1000 built...and its on sale, maybe the cost of it was too much!

A spaniard told me that it is unlucky to change the name of a house anyone heard of that?

I saw one the other day called 'Turfey Bottom'.

Apparently the owner was so pleased with the house that he wanted to put his 'thanks' on permanent display.

Mums is 'Finca los Randos' Not sure what the Randos bit is, I think we did look it up but couldn't find it!

Our house has no name but if it did it would have to be 'La Casa Loca de los Cuatro Perros y los Cuatro Niños!!'
