zurich and winterthur HQ both speak english, google them for website and nearest address.


However the local agent might not! So you might need him to come and inspect your house and leave the forms to sign whilst you deal with the HQ.

You can get an onine quote with http://www.intasure.com/. Also recommended are www.abbeygateinsurance.com. You might get different quotes with these two, for the same cover, but the difference is the excess you would have to pay in the event of a claim.

Please be very careful if you choose Zurich, we have had sewerage flooding into our house for 15 months and Zurich still haven't sorted it out.

We use MAPFRE and we´re quite sure that they´re not the cheapest by a mile. However we had the most almighty problem last year with a massive leak which almost destroyed the back of the house. They were brilliant. Putting it right took 2 months and involved builders, plumbers, floor tilers and decorators and they took care of everything. No quibbling, they just got on with it.
