Yes there is a ban as such, but no-one is taking any notice, thankfully.

Most public places, I think, but if you type in " smoking ban" in the search on this forum you should get a good idea.

Once, sitting in a cafe in Malaga, I rehearsed a question for the waiter.

SWMBO smokes so I said

"Tienes un cinecero"

He looke at me, grunted and pointed at the floor.

I notice that in some pubs in Ireland, at a certain time in the night ( long after official closing time) the cigarettes come out. People can't really complain because they should not be there at that time in any case.

In all the Bars near us there are signs saying Smoking is Permitted, its nearly compulsory to smoke in them, and on the motorway (A92) the Venta's have glass partitioned areas between eating and the bar area, but no-one takes any notice, they smoke wherever they want.

The small bars here in the sticks didn't have enough space to have a no smoking area as well as smoking. So a vote (of the regulars) was called and hey presto the premises were deemed smoking. Easy. Now in England what would have happened is.......

olive, the rules only apply if the bar is over 100m2, under that, they can choose one or the other, but a sign must be put up in the doorway to say which it is.

i'd rather people didn't smoke around me when i'm eating, its disgusting. i want to taste the food not some exhaled smokey air, thank you very much. it should of been implemented a long time ago.
