Madeline McCann
daystar,
perhaps my question could be better put...
you said:
“There is discussion in the political and scientific communities of micro chipping new born babies, which I presume will have a tracking device incorporated. The idea has its merits but could be really misused by Big Brother institutions.”
i merely asked if you could name
some of these big brother institutions and
describe how they (these big brother institutions)
could misuse this technology...

As in everything before anything is adopted one must look at cost-effectiveness. How many thousands of people have holidayed with their children in Portugal over the years, and how many children have been abducted? If micro-chipping costs X billion pounds, and it helps to find a couple of children - or the bodies of children is that value for money? I would suggest not. At the moment there seems to be a completely over-the-top paranoia about safety - of adults and children. Life is for living, and a life without risk is not worth the effort. One should take basic precautions, like not stepping out in front of high-speed traffic, or not getting so drunk that one is unable to be in control, but one must accept that **** happens, and some people will get diseases, or get injured, or die.
The McCanns' employers have had to bear increased costs to cover their absence (I assume as they are public employees the public is paying their salaries still?) and the lives of many people are being adversly affected by the lack of a cardiac surgeon and a part-time GP. On balance, whilst it is possible that they were very briefly guilty of possible lack of care of their children, but as a consequence are they now guilty of dereliction of their duty in their jobs, and should be dismissed?

There is always the worry that your child will be abducted but official stats show that child murders/abductions are no worse than in the thirties. It could well turn out to be a murder committed by family or friends, a chip woldn't be much good then.
Saw on another site that the medium Brians predictions has been proved to be a scammer, can't remember all the technicalities but he was editing his web pages, someone looked at his http. He was charging $25,000 to find the location of missing persons.

Hi nevada smith. Please read benidorm's post on the previous page (10) ie Tesco, plus Government agencies whose computers monitor everything you type, internet search engines record what sites you visit and supply adverts in relation to these sites, selective TV news coverage, etc. etc. etc.. Unless you are totally cut off from the world, they and many more Big Brother institutions influence and reprogram that computer between your ears. They want you quiet and placid to do what they want you to do. Freedom is an illusion at this time. I bet the Portugese police want this case GONE, ie filed as unsolved. Madelines parents are keeping the pot boiling as they know deep down that the police will file this case as unsolved as soon as they return to the UK and that will be the end of it unless she is accidently found.

I don't know if you have been reading the news papers recently but a child went missing in that resort 4 years ago and has never been found and the police chief who was in charge of both of these disappearances has been suspended from the Madelaine case because he beat up and tortured the mother of the 8 year old who disappeared earlier - the child has never been found. This information was in the Daily Telegraph a week or so ago.
As Katy points out statistics show no increase in child murders/abductions. What has actually increased peoples fear of these things is obsessive media coverage of stories like this. I would say the same probably goes for paedophilia. It was never talked about or given newspaper coverage when I was young, but it certainly went on.Daystar wrote:. Microchipping might not be the way, but it is a constructive suggestion. So parents have to live in fear of their childrens' safety until something better comes along which will negate that fear.
Newspapers concentrating on these kind of stories without giving them a statistical context heighten parental fears (They certainly heighten mine) leading to over-protection and mollycoddled children who don't develop properly as they have no freedom to explore their world.

nevada smith,
“I am very old, been everywhere, done everything, seen everything.
It's a shame I can't remember any of it”
it begs the question
how would you know - ?
you can spare me the details, i don’t really want to know...

I think you will find that the "smashing" of the ring happened a good while ago, way before Madeline - details have been sub judice until now and can be revealed today now the verdict is in.

I see that both parents of the two children killed by fumes in Corfu are now expecting babies with their respective new partners.
Seems to me a much healthier and realistic attitude than that shown so far by the McCanns.

Peteroldracer - I found your last comment in bad taste. Having another child is not like replacing a goldfish. Do you really think for one moment it makes you think 'oh, I will just have another one' then you feel better and get over the loss.
I think I get the gist of 'getting on with life' but you put that badly if that is what you were trying to say.

I really can't be bothered to tiptoe round over-sensitive people - and I am in mourning for one of the greatest comedians ever to grace the UK stages and clubs - Bernard Manning.
