Ikea delivery and stock?(reposted from diy section)

Postby nml » Sun Jul 22, 2007 9:28 pm

I was told the other day that if you want a kitchen from Ikea Seville they order the kitchen from France and it takes at least 6 weeks for it to arrive in stock.
Is this true?

That doesn't seem to be very long to wait for a new kitchen really
anyway, anyway, love from me.

We bought our kitchen from stock. Admittedly some of the size cupboards we wanted weren´t in stock so we just re-arranged the kitchen to fit what was in stock. If you go onto their website you can download the kitchen planner then simply rock up with the printed out list of what you need. Alternatively you can design it with them there.

We went up to Seville on a Saturday afternoon and ordered all the appliances and they were delivered to Mijas by 9.30 the following Monday morning, so appliances, hoods etc are kept in stock.

Incidently the units were cheaper to buy and ship from the UK so its worth checking the prices!

We bought the sink tops and taps in the UK. That was OK for the sink tops but a no no for the taps because the Spanish connectors are different.
My advice would be to buys the units in the UK, get an appt with a kitchen specialist at IKEA and ensure you get all the components you need, then you can ensure you have absolutely everything you need. Ship it out then go to IKEA in Spain to get electrical items and sink/taps. We found this the most reliable and cost effective. That said with the new Malaga IKEA opening in Oct this year I might review this on a purely hassle factor basis. I wanted to make sure we had everything we needed and as I have little Spanish I didn't feel confident doing this in Seville and didn't fancy multiple trips to get parts I was missing.
Delivery for a big fridge freezer, oven, hob, extractor etc was about a £100 from memory.

If it was me and I could wait to October I'd go to your local IKEA in the UK and plan the kitchen in detail and get a complete shopping list with part numbers and descriptions then take it to Malaga in October.

That sounds pretty complicated.

Why not just go to one of the hundreds of kitchen shops in Spain and get one there?

We found our kitchen was about 70% cheaper than the UK.

Sid tried a few kitchen suppliers but they were working out about 2,000.00€ more expensive.
With the taps what is different on the connectors ,and and are the drainage connections the same ?

Thanks nml

IKEA drainage fittings are notoriously difficult to fit either in the UK or from my experience in Spain, much better off buying locally at Leroy Merlin or similar place who stock all sorts of connectors.
I also agree the cost significantly cheaper particularly if you are looking at the higher end spec.
I know of two kitchen fitters in the UK who advocate IKEA kitchens over the more common trade only suppliers or B & Q for that matter.

Hi, did I read somewhere that IKEA are opening a store in Jerez soon? Cant find anything on their website

I have been up to Seville to purchase items that were flatpacked but would like to buy larger pieces of urniture now and the delivery charges seem a tad extreme, so if Jerez is in the pipeline, I think I could wait.

Many thanks for both of your quick replys.

Antonia, as you live very near to me in Conil, on your information I think I may wait until 2008/9 and just have the cream (Not a good colour for Sofas in Spain with family, friends and grandson) to be steam cleaned.

Thanks for the info Costapacket, but as Seville is only over 1 hour away from here, Malaga is not really an option.

Once again, many thanks to you both.
Sue.

I have a friend that works in IKEA in England, we spoke to him re the new Malaga store. He checked this out through his colleagues in HQ and was told the Malaga opening had been deferred until sometime in 2008.....

Thanks Antonia, I think you may of read my mind, as that is what we want to purchase. We know that you can buy great leather sofas here in Chiclana but after seeing a make at last in the UK that we both agreed on, I think we will wait until Ikea in Jerez opens. Everytime I go on to the Seville site they always have one or the other in stock, which is really no good as you still have to pay 2 lots of delivery charges

Why do guests whether family friends or what ever never listen to when you tell them don't sit on sofas if you have suntan oil on? Personally I blame Noel Edmonds and Deal or no Deal !!!!!! I'll excuse the grandson as he is only 5 and we love having him here.

no probs with kitchen

Postby Hippo » Sun Sep 02, 2007 4:14 pm

Bought my kitchen from Seville, most was in stock, some wasn't. They delivered what was in stock and delivered the rest later free. Fitted it myself, but I am capable to do so. All went together well, all worked, clear instructions. All appliances worked and plumbing no problems. My advice.... read ALL the instructions before you try to assemble.

Also a new IKEA is opening sometime in JEREZ.

Praise be to IKEA, lol
