Can you spell the names of Spanish villages or towns?

Do you have a query on how to get things done in Andalucia, where to find things, who to call? Find out by posting and hear about others experiences.

Can you spell the names of Spanish villages or towns?

Whatever your connection is to Andalucia please spell the names of places correctly!

Places that come to mind?
Antequera
Ronda

Quite a few people have incorrect spellings of their location in their profiles.

AND ???????

whats it to do with you ? when did it become a crime to be less than perfect ?

blooming heck ! some of us make typos in any language ( I do because I type to fast and sometimes forget to take time to check)

Some may have language disabilities and have enough trouble without folks being nasty about it.

Also english/spanish may be some folks 3/4 language, I know I would mix them all up at times.

While I do believe it is important to TRY and spell correctly, the fact that some of us type on public place is a major achievement.

Hands soap box back

ValL...........isn't it strange that all these 'perfect' people on this forum seem to just love pointing a finger at us the 'imperfect'. I completely understand your predicament....sometimes I just don't even know what language I'm speaking.....let alone writing :wink :? :
and shouldn't a reply on the forum be a sort of spontaneous reply....not a spelling and grammar lesson :?:
However when someone criticises my command of a language first and then goes on to make silly mistakes them self.....they are asking for trouble 8). Certain forum members can laugh and criticise everyone else but when the boots on the other foot..........

I agree Vail........picking up on peoples spelling is a little pedantic and nit picky, I wouldn't do it!

I would pick people up on poorly worded postings that even the Google translater would have a struggle to de-cypher though. 8)

Frankly I have better things to do than peruse other peoples profiles looking for reasons to complain. Off to do my spanish homework and make even more spelling mistakes more than likely

Oh better go and edit my last post it has a few mistooks in it also

If you can´t spell the name of your connection to Andalucia ...then just put...Inland Malaga province...

They may not be able to spell málaga  I know people who can't pronounce their own street name! Spelling doesn't worry me, some other aspects of the forum does. Beachcombers phrase comes to mind

As you may know I am not a pedant, but I am under the distinct impression that it is spelled Andalusia. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong

I would love to know what sparked this off in the first place but lets have a vote on which of each is correct:
London or Londres
Brussels or Bruselas
Edinburgh or Edimburgo
Lisbon or Lisboa
Varsovia or Warsaw
Praga or Prague
Sevilla or Seville
New York or Nueva York
Geneva or Ginebra

and
Barcelona or Girona
Stockholm or Arlanda 8)

My opinion is the left hand side. If anyone wants to use their spanish there are plenty of spanish forums around. Don´t make a spelling or grammar mistake though or they may call you an english pig or something equally racist!

All I would add Katy is that I do believe it is only respect for the readers to try and use language correctly but even I am not even perfect in grammar or spelling so what hope do you lot have 8)

Did you mean Gerona and Girona, as in Spanish and Catalan ........or am I being too pedantic .... I am only joking

I do think it's odd, though, that other countries have their own names for cities like London as in Londres. Surely London should be London, if you know what I mean. Re Andalucia, I have always spelt it that way but I think the one with S may be the English version.

Andalusia, Andalucia .... equally a choice.
I tell you what its cold in Edimburgo tonight apparently.
And even colder in Wien or should that be Viena or Vienna ???
