Rough Camping in Andalucia area

Postby Kahuna » Mon Jan 21, 2008 1:58 pm

Hi Folks

Out cycling quite a bit now in the Antequera / Olvera / Ronda / Grazelema areas and would love to make some multi day excursions.

Anyone have a clue what the laws are regarding rough camping, setting up at the side of an 'off road' track for example, or at picnic spots etc.

Appreciate feedback.

I remember reading in a leaflet produced by the Junta de Andalucia that it is illegal to camp out rough in the summer months, and that the lighting of fires and barbecues is prohibited. I think this is from 1st May to end of October. The reason for both is to cut down on the fire risk.

Beaches were not mentioned.

I would have thought, given the general lax attitude to rules and regulations, that wild camping shouldn't be too much of a problem.
This is assuming that:-
You are talking about yourself and not a large group of people.
You only stay one night or two.
You do not light fires or barbecues.
You do not draw attention to yourself.
You do not leave evidence that you have been there.

Just my thoughts
Cheers

I thought it was illegal as well. I ride my motorbike all over Spain but although I camp in the UK, a bed for the night is too cheap to refuse in Spain. Good luck if you decide to go ahead, there'll be some spectacular skies!

Just remember Gerry's good advice.
