Lotto....Do you play from Spain

Postby pirate » Tue Jun 03, 2008 7:00 pm

Just had it out with the Lotto, Long story short, I`m in Spain

I tried to update my new UK address and No Chance, why because I`m not showing up as being their with Experian credit reference agency. I had to call them up, it got worse, I find out if you win they check you are who you say you are by the electoral role and council tax bills and also utility bills.....if they cant find you they dont pay you. Driving licence and bank statements no good.

Moral of the story is... if you dont have any of these items they wont pay you if you win, I asked for a refund, NO chance, so I had to take further action into making them refund me.

If your playing in Spain it could be a waste of money

If only the health service could be so efficient at weeding out the fictitious addresses and get rid of some of the NHS fraudsters!

Do they allow you to play if you use a correctly registered Spanish address? I wasn't aware it was restricted to UK residents, after all they sell tickets to holidaymakers in the UK.

Interesting! I never buy lottery tickets anyway so just asking out of curiosity but if it is UK residents only then they should have notices warning people in the shops that sell them, particularly in tourist areas. Might be an interesting one for trading standards - and Richard Branson who lost out to Camelot twice in trying to get the licence to operate the National Lottery.

We have been playing since we left the UK and have only won £10's which they just credit your online account with so thanks for letting us know before we win the millions and then can't claim them!!!! I would have been a bit upset!

Your welcome, I hope I save lots of people from wasteing their cash,

heres a clip of what they told me

Thank you for contacting the Interactive Customer Care Team.

Unfortunately, we do not have the ability to cancel tickets once they have been successfully purchased.

#(3) Where instructed by the (National Lottery) Commission, the Company (Camelot) shall, or in its discretion acting reasonably, the Company may declare that a Play or a Claimed Play is defective. In such circumstances, all relevant Plays and all relevant Prizes won shall be void and the Company shall either:

(a) Give the affected Player an opportunity to play another Play of equivalent price; or

(b) Refund to the affected Player the sums paid by that Player in purchasing the defective Play or Claimed Play.

The Company may decide which of (a) or (b) above shall apply.

Players do not have the right to cancel a Play and no refunds will be given in any circumstances.#

If you wish to close your account all you need to do is sign in and click on:

1) My Account

Use this site in Spain - (for Euro Millions anyway, probably not UK Lotto though.
www.elgordo.com
From looking at the registration process - you can register at any address and include credit card details. What happens when you win though I don't know, but all the detail can be read in English, so if anything is hidden in the Terms & Conditions you can find it easily enough.

The official site for all Spanish lotteries and Euromillions is
www.serviapuestas.es.

It is in Spanish but very easy to use.

There is a bar near where I live that has a small counter just for doing the lottery, it’s good opportunity to play while socialising :?

:? Just go to the Impuestas shop in your nearest town and play Euro Millions, 2 euros a go and the forms and method of playing are exactly the same as going to your English Newsagent for the English Lotto. They pay out up €600 in the office on the spot if you win just by reading the bar code on the ticket. Larger winnings you have to do something else...never been that lucky so will cross that bridge when we come to it

Hi,

Yes I do play the Spanish lotto and Euro.

I simply thought it might be useful information for others who may do the UK lotto from Spain Thinking that one day they may get rich. Heres some more extracts from their email.
If you can produce these items you wont have a problem, play away, if you cant, you may as well save your money.

from the email from Camelot

Under the terms of our licence, we are unable to promote The National Lottery or sell tickets outside the UK. Many countries provide their own lotteries and make it an offence for people there to play #foreign# lotteries or for #foreign# lotteries to advertise there. Therefore, it is our current company policy to restrict the sale of tickets to within the UK only.

"In the case of a large win we would ask the player to produce the utility bills to prove they are registered at the address.

I Hope this info helps others who may purchase the Uk Lotto from Spain, as I did, decide whether to carry on paying or not.

And if you do win the UK lottery and live in Spain, the Spanish taxman will take up to 43% of it!
