Large green and yellow lizard in the garden

Postby oliveview01 » Fri Jul 18, 2008 10:50 pm

Any ideas as to what sort of lizard it could be? It walked with it´s legs kind of straight and no on it´s belly like the normal house lizards. I was looking at the flower bed and it popped out took one look at me and rushed back. (Didn´t think I looked that bad, honest! ) I´ve tried looking on google bu no luck.

What sort of head did it have?

It could be a Chameleon - they come in most colour schemes! They also tend to walk with their body above the ground. Lizards tend to "slither".

There are also many lizards in Spain. Some used to be considered to be a delicacy and were eaten.

There is a good Spanish nature site here

We had one the same last month and saw one walking across the road but was bigger than the one we saw.

sorry El Cid, I didn´t answer your question. From what I can remember there was a ´frill´ (can´t think of the correct word) around it´s face/neck. It did move fast once we noticed each other!

Then it certainly sounds like a Chameleon.

Here's one we found in our garden.

El Cid, what a beauty (the creature, not you, although I am sure you are a beauty  )
Just like my Chameleon but the wrong colour, now if you could digitally change it to yellow and green.......

Yes, I was expecting a green/yellow one but it seems they just change colour to suit their mood - he was obviously having a grey day!
