Life insurance/car insurance

Postby oliveview01 » Mon Sep 01, 2008 1:45 pm

We are due to renew the car insurance in the next 3 weeks, who do you use? At the moment we use Linea Directa- thought I would see if I could get a cheaper quote and then go back to Linea Direct with it!
Also, we need to get life insurance (to cover the capital gains on the house when a partner dies) any suggestions here?
Thanks

Avoid Spanish life insurance as they need proof that all the deceased taxes, inheritance taxes CGT etc etc have been paid before they pay out so rather defeats the object. Thats before they see umpteen certified copies of every document you have.
Oh and apparently take forever to pay out.

Call a UK based company as suspect some will cover brits abroad.

Hi Bongtrees, been doing a google search for insurers, found a couple in Gib, but no life cover, but asked for a quote for my car insurance though!
Wonder if they (UK based insurer) would want me to have a UK address? Will have to continue my search and cross the road carefully until I find an insurer

Linea D will beat any other comparable quote but only if you go back to them - I´ve saved nearly 1000 on our family´s cars by doing that this year!!!

For car insurance I rang around several insurers and looked online and went back to Linea Directa with the lowest quotes and rather than lose my business they evven beat that thus reducing their original quote by more than 350 euros  Also I have had 2 punctures and an accident and their breakdown service etc etc was second to none. Previously had awful problems with a place in Gib. All my cars are Spanish reg.

As for life insurance I suggest you look online at some of the big companies in the UK and send e-mails to several brokers in the UK asking for a quote. I am sure many work with Lloyds of London therefore where you are domiciled hopefully wont be a major prob.

Let us know how you get on.

Mapfre was one, trying to remember the others.........Direct Seguro, Zurich......just phone LD and tell them you are cancelling your policy as they are so much more expensive and they get their "special customer" team to call you.......you tell them your cheapest price, they go off to speak to their underwriters and hey presto, they phone you with the best quote of all, but only because you are so specisl and important to them.....!!

They did discount me 35€ last year off the price quoted for my renewal, as I ´d got a cheaper quote from Mapfre, turned out the Mapfre quote was only 3rd party, but they discounted my quote as I´d been with them for 3 years :D
I´m phoning Zurich tomorrow for a quote, then I will be ready for the LD renewal quote.
Just got to get some life cover now and I´ll be happy :D

I tried to get a quote from Friends Provident but they only had fixed term policies that are suitable for folk who want to cover mortgage payments for a set period/amount say 10 years. I want a whole life policy as I have no mortgage and don´t know when I will pop off this planet
I´ll have to carry on looking

I've been trying to get life insurance on my two sons, six kids between them and not a pennys worth of insurance. Not even had replies from the uk companies I've approached.
Car insured with Linea Direct, every renewal I send them a tradesmans sharp intake of breath and they lower the quote, almost €60 this month!

I rang Linea Directa this morning and their very nice man rang me this afternoon- took another 60€ off the renewal price, as long as I pay using my card and not a direct debit payment, no problem :D They then matched the lowest price, even though the lowest quote didn´t hae as much ´included´ as LD had. I didn´t want to change from LD as when we had to call out the breakdown folk they were very good :D

If you have any luck with the life insurance could you post info please. I'm in the same situation as you, no mortgage but no life cover either. Also friends of mine are in the same boat.

Many thanks.

I had a reply from Friends Provident today and they will not deal with folk direct, only through a broker. I am going to go and have a chat with my Spanish neighbour tomorrow and ask her about it all and see what she comes up with. I know the other neighbour has insurance for a funeral etc.
What happened to the good old days when the man from the Pru came and collected your insurance money at the door every week :( Ours died at an early age of a heart attack

The man from the Pru! Takes you back.

Brief case bike clips and more than a cuppa from Mrs Tooths ugly daughter, and that after cycling up the hill I lived on.

Did anyone find any life insurance? My OH will be 65 soon and he cannot get life insurance anywhere, unless it bankrupts us each month...........
