Can anyone recommend a good, value for money company for the above? And has anyone had to make a claim on such a policy while over here? Linea Directa seem NOT to cover anything outside of the home....(all risks) which is a bit of a limiter, but reckoned it was best to go with a Spanish company in case you DID have a claim (well they would, wouldn't they!)
One of the brokers I contacted (Abbeygate) charge an arm and a leg extra for ANY jewellery at all.....seems a bit odd??? (Even when it's not particularly valuable, they won't include it as 'unspecified items' even if the value is way below the limit)....
Advice please!

I have found Mapfree to be excellent.
I claimed when I had my purse stolen and the money was in the bank two days later!
My neighbour is also claiming on my policy for the cost of his dogs, that mine killed and Mapfree had someone round to check with me the following day and they have told me that I mustn't worry about anything as they will take care of everything!

They are asking for proof of purchase.
The neighbour is asking for 2000€. I guess if you have paid that much for your dogs then you would have some paper work to show for it. I've seen them for sale for half the price, so he must have got them from somewhere special!
If my dogs get hold of the two that are left, he's not going to ask for any money. He's just going to kill my husband.
Presumably if you have mongrels you wouldn't be able to claim much.
If I thought he really cared for the dogs, I would feel devastated about what has happened and how he feels, but judging by the way they are looked after, they are just designer accessories to him. I doubt he'll be going to a shelter for replacements.
It was a horrible way for the dogs to die and I wouldn't wish it on any animal, but it's happened and I can't change it. I'm just pleased that Mapfree have come up trumps!

What happens if they dont?
I doubt if they will pay the full amount as the neighbour is trying it on. He knows that he is!
Mapfree have told me not to worry about the claim as they will sort it. So I'm going to do as I'm told and not worry about it ( I have other problems taking my attention at the moment). They have said that it is now between them and the neighbour to sort out and as that's what I pay my premiums for, I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.
The day after the neighbour put in the claim, a guy from Mapfree called round and asked to see my dog's vet's books. He took photo's of these and said that I have nothing to worry about.
I have never known an insurance company be so accommodating. If it all goes pear shaped later on, at least I am not having to worry about it just now!

Insurance
tjtops, I wouldn't recommend Spanish insurance company. We took one out when we moved here and when I had my bag stolen a few years ago the insurance company didn't pay for anything. Their excuse was that it wasn't done with violence.

It did not occur to us to claim on our insurance when our dog was killed (while being boarded) We asked the other person to claim and they said they had no insurance It was last January, so I guess it is too late to claim now. He was a pedigree Chihuahua.
We have our house and contents with Mapfre, when we had damage caused by flooding in the neighbours olivegrove we went to the Mapfre office, they contacted the ´concorsio´ (sorry if the spelling/name is wrong) and we were told to take photographs of the damage and go ahead with the repairs. Although Mapfre did not pay for the repairs the man in the local office was very helpful-

We use Abbeygate for all our Insurance needs, car and house/contents who are based in Gib but have offices all round Andulucia. Our House Insurance is with Hiscox which is a very recognised company in the UK. Thankfully, we have had no cause to make a claim on any of the policies but just by reading the small print feel very content with the cover that is offered. They also came in with the most competive quote.
You can contact them by their website, Good Luck.

Thanks Sue....I had a quote from Abbeygate and was trying to decide between them and Linea Directa...
But as various people have said, you have to read the small print very carefully, and of course they aren;t keen to let you SEE the small print until after you have parted with your dosh!!!

I have an All risks policy for my jewelery.
I lost an earring whilst on holiday in England. ( The earrings cost 200 euros)
after retracing my steps, I went to the police station to see if it had been handed and filled in a lost property form.
I returned and made a claim to the insurance company, my first in 10 years, apparently the earrings would only have been covered if they were in the Hotel safe, not whilst wearing them. So what is the point of taking earrings if they have to stay in the safe???????
I was told All Risks in Spain isnt like All risks in the UK
