Becoming non-resident
Becoming non-resident
Much as I love Spain and where we live I am moving back to the UK. I have a house and bank account here and the bank want me to prove that I am now not a resident. Any ideas how I do this?
Re: Becoming non-resident
This isn't meant to be a daft answer but why don't you ask your bank what sort of proof they require?

You can apply for a certificate of non-residence. Here is the application form:

But if you were resident and had a card or certificate you may need to cancel that first.
You can do that on the same form that you apply for a residency certificate - tick the "Baja" box.
the form is here http://www.mir.es/SGACAVT/modelos/extra ... /ex_16.pdf
Presumably you then fill in the form that Beachcomber gave to actually get the certificate of non residency.

Re: Becoming non-resident
Excuse my ignorance - but as we have not yet obtained a certificate of non-residencia - would this form be ok to use to apply for one? We strictly adhere to 180 days in Spain.

Re: Becoming non-resident
Currently you only need a certificate of non-residence if your bank is one of the very few that is placing this onus on you, namely (at the moment) Cajamar and Cajasur.

Re: Becoming non-resident
Thanks for all your help - just to clarify matters 1. I did ask the bank who sent me to the police station and I knew it would be more complicated than just one visit because everything is. 2. the bank that requested this is Halifax Spain. So now with the process sorted I can supply the bank with the piece of paper they want -- eventually.
This is the first tiem I've used the forum and it won't be the last. Great result.

Re: Becoming non-resident
I have been sent forms from cajasur and have 60 days to get them back, however the bank charges if they do it for you so can anyone tell me where to take the forms?

Re: Becoming non-resident
You have to take them to the nearest foreigner's office but you still have to pay and, frankly, it would be easier, less time consuming and cheaper just to let the bank do it.

Re: Becoming non-resident
The actual cost of the certificate is just over €6 per person. I'm not sure what Carasur charges on top of that but it is not extortionate.

Thanks Beachcomber for the information, I don't have to take a loan. I have gained so much information from this site and its down to the likes of you and your knowledge.
Thanks again

Sorry to drag up a very old thread, but the links given in the posts by Beachcomber are no longer valid. Does anyone have the up to date link please?
