Chimney Sweeps?

Postby keddyboy » Sat Oct 04, 2008 10:13 am

The time of year is upon us where some of us want to clean our flues.
We have lived in our current house for 6 years and think its time to get the old chimney swept.
Any suggestions of such a person in the Alhaurin el Grande and surround??

I believe the traditional Spanish method it to drop a live chicken down the chimney.

Ive tried sending the grandkids up but they all refuse!!! Kids have no respect these days!!!
Thanks for the suggestion but I feel a sweep would suffice!

Before we moved over here we were informed (on this forum) that sweeps were hard to find so we bought rods /brushes ect with us and guess what the, casa we bought has central heating, so I might start up a new profession, if you cant find a sweep "screwfix direct" do a very cheap set good luck with your chimneys . keddyboy, did you get your chimney swept? If so how did it go and was it expensive - we are in dire need of one as I have just opened the glass door and found some dead chicks in the grate so I'm assuming there is a birds nest in the chimney

I have been informed and have bought this bright yellow and red tube, cost 4 euros, which you burn in the grate for every 500kilos of wood you burn. Haven't tried it out yet.
Fo debris up the chimney, try lighting a newspaper and stuffing it up the chimney, worked for my late Gran especially if you have a flue lever!!
