Credit card magnetic strip

Postby Kathy » Thu Oct 09, 2008 3:53 pm

I was in a shop the other day and a lady counld´t pay because the magnetic strip on the back of the card had been damaged. Thats happened to be so many times, it never happens on my UK credit cards, but I cant tell you how many times its happened in Spain, the bank advised me to buy a new purse, which I did and the same thing happened. Apparently they told this lady to do the same, she did and the cards still became damaged after a very short period.

Has anyone else had this same problem?

I used a different ATM from usual the other day and after my card went in a message came up saying "checking magnetic strip", which I've never come across before. It then rejected my card saying it was damaged. I went along to another bank machine and it worked perfectly (mine is a UK debit card).

my oh's card is always having to be replaced, because of reader errors. She said the bank told her to get a new handbag and shoes and an outfit to go with them

i think its just worn out from over use.

This was always happening to me with my Unicaja card whilst in Spain, it never happens to any of my UK cards though which is odd.

If you have a magnetic catch on your handbag or purse, this can corrupt the magnetic strip on your card !
