Do you have a query on how to get things done in Andalucia, where to find things, who to call? Find out by posting and hear about others experiences.

anyone seen the "barter system" in the paper ?

Postby spanish_lad » Fri Feb 06, 2009 11:11 am

saw it the other day, a bank has set up a system where people trade "something" for "something" of the same value.

ie: if you charge 10€ an hour for cleaning, you could offer 3 hours cleaning in exchange for 1 hours removals (if they charge 30€ an hour)

does this sound like a good idea ? i think it does, and it could be started up like the "freecycle" websites, ie: one for each area.

only problem with it would be "bartering dont pay the bills" so people would still have to work. :|

A worldwide network has been established for more than 30 years its called LETS. In France I think it is called SEL not sure what it is in Spain. When I lived in France in early 90´s many ex-pats were arrested for using this system for avoiding tax and NI.

just found the article,. it was in either the sur or the euro weekly.

"forthe last three years the citys first "time bank" has been run by the "hispanalense university´s equal oppertunities division".

the 62 members offer their services on the univesities website.

the most popular "time bank" in seville is known as "ecolocal" and has some 120 members.

more time banks have been set up in other areas of andalucia such as jaen, cordoba or jerez.

didn´t write out the whole article, but it seems theres quite a few of them :)

http://www.ces.org.za/

not sure if the url above will be stripped out but it is a non-profit organisation, it provides the tools to set up your own currency exchange system anywhere, i looked into lets in london and although they have a long established group there is no readily available online system, i think these alternative currencies or 'social' currencies are going to do well in the current climate
