Been without internet and T.V till now, too much thinking time.
Thanx for reassuring responses, I think.
I was going to ask Beach what Alhaurin's Mayor was saying, guess Jool's answered that.

What's the best site to find out about Spanish Politics?
(Preferably in English)

Lavanda wrote:... Also, Spain has the King. He is a huge and steadying force. He is much loved by Spaniards who still credit him with saving the country from military dictatorship thirty odd years ago during the aborted coup. The Royal Family are seen as a stable influence. The election for M.E.P.s is this year. That's a good time for people to vote for change; vent their spleen; send signals to the government. I'll be watching with interest...
This is the crux of the matter. Juan Carlos, virtually single-handedly, put down the last attempted coup d'état in 1981, referred to above by Lavanda, and Spaniards have never forgotten this. However, it is common knowledge that Spain's current prime minister would actually prefer to be its president effectively stripping the monarchy of its constitutional status. The majority of Spanish citizens would never stand for this neither would the military and security services or the church.

The result of the European elections will certainly be interesting as will the three years leading up to the next general election (assuming it takes that long.)
Let's go Brandon!

I was going to mention this a few months ago but didn't wish to be accused of scare-mongering.

I think will are more likely to see a military coup than civil war. The Hispanics have a long tradition of this in Spain and across the whole of Latin America during times of economic stress. IMO this would only happen if we have a continued economic collapse and governments lose control of crime and disorder, food shortages and government defaulting on debt

You mean it could take place on ADC.... a virtual civil war.
Indeed and it started a while back!! On one side, the day in, day out, doom & gloom merchants with their allies the ones who are still smarting over the democratic election of a Socialist Government. On the other side those who get on and make the best of life whatever the situation.

As for me, I´m too preoccupied trying to fathom out why Mercadona does not sell brussells sprouts or, coming to think about it, swede. I´m beginning to think that Zapatero is involved somehow.:(

Hi K chameleon!
This (Herald Tribune) site has El Pais in English every day.
Just go to the link, scroll to El Pais and click on the blue 'here' for it in English.

http://www.iht.com/indexes/partners/index.php

Bear in mind it's only one political side to the story but it's a reasonable start and covers most things in an accessible way - Spanish politics being as dense as my brain some days! :D

Thanks for the link Lavanda (continuing my education) :D
Hubby says it's "just a small Town Mayor, slagging off the opposition."
As "Feral cats" was higher up the "active topics" list, guess a state of tranquility can resume.

"W.T.F." Just checking if we're being watched (the last one was deleted)

Normal service has resumed, guess it was just the wind.
