Electric bill

Postby antonia » Tue Mar 10, 2009 10:27 am

I know this has been covered before, but can someone please explain to me why i am paying so much for electricity. For the months of Nov/Dec 2007 our bill was 148.57 euros. Nov/Dec 2008 368 euros. Jan/Feb 2008 227 euros and just had the bill for Jan/Feb 2009 and it's 314 euros. Whilst i appreciate Electricy has increased in price surely not by this much. From another thread i know that i can buy a key to check my reading, but then can i take this reading to the elec company and if i do what will they do about it? What is as annoying is that on the bill it states date of payment as 01.03.09 and i recieved it yesterday...they must think our bank account is a bottomless pit.

With a bill that high I assume you have some electric heating. If so, it's been a cold winter and your bills could easily have gone up by that amount.

You can read your own meter and either submit the readings via the Internet or just phone them through.

Yes Sid we do have some Elec heating and a dishwasher and tumble dryer. I have been conscious of not using any of them for 2 months now, but it doesn't seem to make much difference. We are in an apt and so don't seem to feel the cold as much. Do you think it's just the increase in price?

Another question, which part on the bill is the actual reading? i seem to be having lots of blonde moments

No, the price increase was only 6% so that wouldn't account for it. As you know there have been problems with meter readings during this period which could explain it.

The meter readings are on the top left hand side under "Comsumo". It shows either "Lectura real" if it was a proper reading or "Lectura estimada" if it was estimated. It shows the current reading and the previous reading.

We have over winter guests in a 2 bed apartment with two electric oil radiators (or warm a/c if they choose.) Everything else electric too - water heater, oven etc.

Last feb the meter read bill was €160. This feb the meter read bill was €250. I've checked the readings in each case.

December's meter read bill was €129.

It cost a lot to be a little more cosy i guess.

Surprise... surprise.....
When I opened an envelope from Edesa today I couldn't believe my eyes that they had actually
said that they owed me 0,03 euros ,this amount will be deducted from my next bill.
This it seems is what I am owed due to the inconvenience of having 5 electricity cuts last year amounting to the total of 5,01306 hours!
Something must be going on as this is the first time in all the years I have lived here that they have done something like this.

We had the same shock today as well, they have actually refunded us 28 euros for all of the power cuts last year, and going by the amount of times the power has been off this year we should get another refund next year assuming that this is going to be an annual thing.

Well it appears my neighbours don't have keys, they can't even believe that i want to check my reading  The question is would it be the same size key as the ones in the UK? If so i can get family to post me one.

I have checked mine and have a padlock not a key - can I legally change the padlock? Or is there an offence of interfering with Sevillana property?
