Thank God for that - you were getting terminally boring.Martin Page wrote:Whatever - I've had enough now
Those of you that feel you need travel insurance - just do it - it's not that expensive.

Im sorry ! ...
Re: travel insurance
Martin I think you had some good points. I do think insurance is essential even though nowadays they will do anything to avoid paying out. When my OH volunteered at the CDS hospital he spent a lot of time trying to sort out people who were not insured or had been transfered from private hospitals because their insurance wouldn't pay. They were treated with the health card but some eg. motor accidents needed long term hospitalization and repatriation which is very costly. Sometimes best to look for a cheaper policy that just covers medical and repatriation. If you fly and baggage is lost the airline pays anyway.
For those who have claimed for medical it is difficult to get cover again unless you declare everything and pay an extra premium. Read all the T&C's before purchasing not when you want to claim.

Re: travel insurance
I've never had trouble getting cover, despite declaring past claims. But they weren't large claims, so maybe that helped.
Motor accidents are an interesting section as most policies, although including third party liability, exclude motor accidents from third party liability without additional payments. However, if you hire a car it may be covered there.
Definitely agree it is worth reading the T&C's before buying the policy.

travel after november and be with the nationwide
Re: travel insurance
sorry just had to do that NOT
we are under pension age, pay by debit card for flights and car and we take out
anual cover as it is cheaper for multi trips around (3) I think. We had peace of mind when the ash cloud was over every where

Not if over 65 or non-UK resident. That probably applies to the original poster as the insurance is for a trip to UK.sheilap wrote:travel after november and be with the nationwide

Re: travel insurance
Not quite right Campo Steve!! Non-UK resident & working in Spain but well under 65!!!
Sheilap how do you manage to pay for car hire on debit card? We've been told companies both in Spain & UK will only accept credit cards.

Re: travel insurance
OK. I stand corrected on the age thing although there is an upper age limit on the Nationwide policy which varies according to meeting other criteria.littleeak wrote:Not quite right Campo Steve!! Non-UK resident & working in Spain but well under 65!!!

However, Nationwide travel insurance is ONLY available to permanent UK residents. As you are looking for insurance to go to UK then I assume you are not UK resident, so the Nationwide policy isn't an option.

Re: travel insurance
OK, back to the original question......we have annual travel insurance with Globelink International which covers EU residents and will repatriate to wherever you state should it be necessary. Apply online. We are residents of Spain, have EHIC cards issued by UK although completely in the Spanish system as we are pensioners but still like to have full travel cover which includes some medical benefits. Hope this helps.
Re: travel insurance
Irismary,
Thanks for that link, it looks as if it could be very helpful, I have heard of Globelink, but not checked it out for a long time.
I'm sure that it will be of use to others on the forum....even if they don't bother to say so....
Kind Regards,
Gordon.

Re: travel insurance
My OH has sometimes flown to the UK, with me staying here in Spain.
Apart from all other considerations, should the aircraft crash, I would be unable to continue living here as we both live on her pension, and even when my own kicks in later this year, it would not be enough to cover my needs on its own.
Travel insurance is therefore a need, in order not to turn a drama into a crisis!

Re: travel insurance
We are covered on EHICs. We never bother with travel insurance because the only places we ever travel to are the UK and Spain, we travel on the ferry from Spain (so don't cross France) and we live in our house in whichever country we are in, so would not need repatriation if we had an accident.
