Does anyone know why the Spanish put boards under every mattress in our rental?

Do you mean that the mattress rests on boards? Aren't all bed frames constructed like that these days? Ours are and they were bought in the UK. :?

Decent ones have slats to allow the matress to breath. Our new one from IKEA has adjustable ones for firmness in different areas.

Julian,
I have heard that some people get hot and sweaty in bed.
If the matress didn't breath it would stay damper longer and if you looked under it you may even see horrible black mould

The boards are on top of the slats, it is something extra the owners have put under every mattress, any ideas why?

i would suggest that beds in rentals get a bit more "wear and tear"

best thing is enjoy your stay

Our bed in the U.K. now has a board as the betal slats started to warp the mattress, even though it was an expensive one.
We added the board and our backs feel better for it, we might add one in Spain as if you look under the bed when someone lays on it you can see what I mean.

Just one other thing, we bought a bedsead mattress for our daughter, it is only quilted on one side and the other has a board in it, still damask covered but flat on the base.
