I've used this company who offered a very competitive rate. The office staff speak English if needed.

Seen these advertising a lot. They offer overseas home insurance.

http://www.intasure.com/

We had Zurich but cancelled when they would not pay out for many policy owners involved in the mijas fire. We then had IBEX which was ok. you can deal with them direct. Many of the UK companies insure spanish homes now and they tend to offer lower prices.

We are very happy with Allianz. We had a big pergola blow down in a gale and they paid up before the repair work even started.

We're with AXA (an old recommendation from Beachcomber) and they paid out with no problems when Endesa blew up the air con.

We were with Intasure, but they no longer insure permanent homes in Spain, only holiday homes, and they left us without insurance for 2 months before telling us. The girl who was selling Intasure here is now selling Liberty seguros

Thanks for the replies, I have looked for UK companies willing to insure properties in Spain but it seems they only insure holiday homes. Will have a look at Axa and see what else is out there.

I tried the Axa website asked for a quote and answered about twenty questions, got an answer back in less than ten minutes saying "please note that we respectfully decline as we are in the process of terminating our relationship with AXA". They do have an agent in Torre del Mar though so we'll call in there next week.

We are insured with Allianz and have been very happy with their service. When our house was burgled two years ago, they sent someone to do emergency repairs to the door within 2 hours, and our claim was paid out in full within 12 days. All the repair work was arranged and paid for by them, and they also paid us 60€ in addition to the amount claimed, for out of pocket expenses (their policy includes such a payment for claims below a certain amount - maybe to discourage people from claiming for expensive items they may not have owned in the first place, never mind had stolen!). Our premium didn't go up any more than the usual small annual increase, either.

Its nice to hear of so many good reports for Spanish Insurance companies ...
BUT Caveat emptor - is still the by word for Spanish insurers ...For every reccomendation there will be countless more tales of woe where the very small print is invoked ... Just be very warned !

is it only spanish insurers which invoke very small print then? I thought it was insurers in general.

I've had a quote from Helvetia General via Abbeygate Brokers, has anyone had any dealings with either?

Our gestor sorted us out with Allianz. It's good to hear the good reviews, although touch wood, we haven't yet needed to make a claim.

No they all do.

The problem in Spain is the different rules about burglary.

As I understand it there is Robo and Hurto which are different sorts of crimes. I can't say I fully understand the difference but I think it involves whether violence was used or not and the payout is adjusted accordingly.

If you know the difference it would be useful to hear it.

robo means breaking into somewhere to steal something, or using violence to take something from someone
so if they steal something from your house when the door was open it is hurto, not robo
and if they take your handbag from your unattended trolley it is hurto, not robo

Our experience of Mapfre was good when we had a claim for damage caused by a flood. We have changed to another company as their quote was cheaper by quite a bit. The new company is Generali Seguros, or something like that! The one stipulation was any jewellery is kept in a metal safe. If I just lose a ring I am not covered, only if it is stolen.

Thinking of changing to AXA or Allianz.
Anyone know of any English speaking agents in the Nerja to Rincon de la Victoria area?
Cheers
