Thanks again all. TBH I hadn't given much thought to the currency issue, but now you're all making me think I'd be better off getting most of it out of Spain lol.

Another reason why not to invest in spanish banks. Friends of ours went last week to withdraw money from the CAM bank now taken over and have been told that maybe they can have it in March!
Some more victims here too.

I tell you what is funny - now that I have some money sitting in my Spanish bank acct, the staff are being everso friendly and making a point of telling me all about their latest offers every time I go in - TVs on zero % interest etc... Little do they know I've just transferred over half of it out of there

Firstly, congratulations on getting a sale.
Regarding Beach's reference to offshore accounts, does anyone know if this money is counted as a UK Asset, for the purposes of a UK will, or would it come under a Spanish Asset?
This is also something you might want to consider - where you hold monies for Access/Wills/Inheritance purposes.

The gold option was not meant as a joke. Precious metals always do well in a financial crisis - ask anyone who invested in krugerrands a few years ago.biribiri wrote:Or open an account in Monaco under your dogs name.janda_grant2 wrote:Of course there's always the gold option

Have you considered Gibraltar? Have glance through this thread viewtopic.php?f=22&t=27807&p=260076&hilit=leeds+building+society#p260076
The second to last post from the guy from Leeds Building Society has a couple of interesting points.

Don't worry about what people think, they don't do it very often

Re: What to do with my money?!
Andaluz Campo, I asked that question recently of my UK lawyer, specifically about any funds which were on deposit in Gibraltar with branches of UK Building Societies. His reply was that the Gib offices were actually just branches, like on any High Street in the UK, and not Gib registered entities. Therefore any funds on deposit were considered a UK asset and covered by my UK will. Also, the UK compensation scheme applies.
