If only Liverpool had paid 2 euros for him............

In Almería the new autovía (A334), between Baza and the E15 near Huércal-Overa is partially completed, but now abandoned. It leaves temporary diversions which have become permanent.
On the other hand the new railway is cracking on between Almería and Turre, costing millions to bore tunnels through the mountains.
On yet another hand the government can't even afford to knock down the ill-fated icon of property boom and corruption - Hotel Algarrobico
Are the politicians still being paid? Of course they are, there will always be cash for them!

Another new business opened on our main street yesterday, a clothes shop called Tutto Tempo. It's a franchise operation and every item in the shop costs 10€ - they had an opening offer where the first 100 customers to buy something could buy a second item for 1€. I had a quick look this morning and their stuff looks quite reasonable quality, the shop was crowded and people were actually buying as well as just looking. Seems like a sensible concept in these times, I think they could do well.

It's at the end of Camino Viejo de Malaga nearest to Las Carmelitas (where the Ayuntamiento is), just by the traffic island where the road divides into Camino Viejo de Malaga and Calle Cristo.Lyric wrote:And what, pray tell, constitutesin Velez Malaga please.our main street

There were certainly ladies of all ages shopping in there today, and I saw several tops I would have bought myself if they'd been available in different colours. I have the same problem of finding clothes I like in Spain so I sympathise.Lyric wrote:Thank you, think I can find that, herself is interested, she is finding clothes for a certain age difficult, it all seems for children or MMG !

Re: Is the "crisis" getting worse where you live?
Bit of good news, the former Opencor in town looks set to reopen as Coviran. Seems the Chinese have bought this old group. They put up the new sign weeks ago, filled the shop with stock...then took the sign down again and nothing happened. Rumour had it they'd been done for having people sleeping in the basement. (Don't see why that's a crime). Anyway, a lot of banging and drilling has been going on (we live above) so I guess they're putting in the required bedrooms / bunkbeds or whatever prior to opening for business.
Don't worry about what people think, they don't do it very often

Well,
With the "cost of borrowing" now over 6%, it is getting worse for the government. so, in one way or another, it is getting worse for all !

I think Spain will be looking at a bailout soon
No soporto ver la casa sucia, ahora mismo me levanto y apago la luz.
Re: Is the "crisis" getting worse where you live?
That will only perpetuate the problem though, it's not "fixable". What sort of IOU can Spain give to be used as an asset against the bailout (loan)? And so it goes...............Julie wrote:I think Spain will be looking at a bailout soon
Beggars in Barcelona, regular Spanish folk in say Eixample and Gracia not professional beggars downtown, have multiplied over the past 12 months, it is shocking. I have had to close my business there and if I can't turn a penny in Barcelona then there is not much point in me trying elsewhere in Spain. It's going to get very much worse.

We visited Cadiz last year and was shocked to find homeless OAP's,not down and outs but looking clean and tidy, bedding down in shop doorways.A very sorry state of affairs.

The reality is...Spain can not survive / compete against Germany in the Euro. Much the same for Ireland and the rest of the PIIGS.
This is another European war, but fought on the financial front, only this time there will be no winners.
Spain and the rest will just bleed for the next 5 / 10 years until someone says "enough". Problem is these days, there are no strong leaders so things will be left to drift for years. In that time it will not get better. Jobs / property prices / standard of living, will suffer even more.
Ex pats will see a little sunshine from a weakening Euro,.

Re: Is the "crisis" getting worse where you live?
The reality is the Euro is flawed and if it wasn't Spain in the headlights it would be another eurozone country. Spain is too big to bail out.
Re: Is the "crisis" getting worse where you live?
Despite all the rhetoric from Rajoy and his cronies, Spain is looking grim, nothing surprising there, it was expected. Probably the only surprise is how grim it will become, and for how long it will last. Spain I think is now the second poorest nation in the EU, poverty has increased 9%, up to 11 million people in poverty.

As the FT says today,
the message from investors is clear: Spain is the chief source of financial anxiety, not Greece or Portugal. Indeed, Spanish stocks are down 15 per cent this year, the worst equity market performance in the region.
