Staying outside Spanish banking system is it possible?

Do you have a query on how to get things done in Andalucia, where to find things, who to call? Find out by posting and hear about others experiences.

Staying outside Spanish banking system is it possible?

Postby Bongtrees » Mon May 21, 2012 8:17 pm

I have reduced/cancelled many of my direct debits but have some that I cant think of any way of servicing from outside Spain.

One is my Iberdrola (elec. bill) and other is Securitas Direct (alarm).

Can anyone think of anyway of paying these from outside Spain?

Is there an offshore Euro account with DD facility maybe?

Why bother.

With any Spanish bank you are still covered for eur 100,000.

Whatever happens to Greece, we must all hope that "Europe" rides to the rescue of Spain for all our sakes ( in Europe that is ! )

Do any UK banks have branches in Spain?
I have an account with Barclays in the UK.
Went into a Barclays in Spain for help with my account.
They couldn't help me as they are part of Barclays International and, other than name, do not have any connection, or so they told me, with Barclays UK.
Cheers

Maybe I am misinterpreting what Bongtrees said but it seems to me that she no longer wants to have a bank account in Spain but she still needs the ability to pay utility bills etc.

It's possible to make international transfers but it can be expensive and it's possible that the companies will not accept that.

Thanks Sid and yes you are correct.

I wonder if it can be done using a credit card?

Am trying to register for online billing with the companies I pay and see what payment options are available but none like my NIE number but will persevere.

Wouldn't it be much easier to maintain a Spanish bank account and just top it up with enough each month to pay direct debits.

I think it's a bit early for a panic like this!

Surely the easiest and cheapest option is.....

To have a Spanish bank account......

Life is too short for all the other noise going around.

Sorted !

You are completely missing the point.

She does NOT WANT a Spanish account, presumably for well thought out personal reasons.

What she wants is advice on how to pay utility bills.

Constructive advice I am sure will be appreciated.

Short of asking a neighbour to pay the bills monthly at a bank, I have no other suggestion.

Only other option I can think of.
