Bog rolls have got softer and thicker and there is sliced bread other than Bimbo
Re: Things that have changed since you lived in Spain
Bimbo is very apt.
Thick and tasteless.

As an Essex girl I could take exception to that
You can spend, minutes, hours, days, weeks or even months over-analyzing a situation; trying to put the pieces together, justifying what could've, would've happened - or you can just leave the pieces on the floor and move the f**k on.

Re: Things that have changed since you lived in Spain
I had to google TOWIE today as I'm totally fed up with reading headlines about TOWIE star X has it off with Y and Z before Twittering apologies to TOWIE mate etc. etc. etc. Why do newspapers assume anyone knows what TOWIE stands for? Well ... it's about people in Essex ... Glad I don't have a telly BUT if I did I would not have had to google TOWIE, I guess. O.K. Off topic (a bit) but I feel better now.
So ... another thing that's changed since I lived in Spain is that I'm even MORE out-of-touch with English culture.

Crash barriers on the A92 - when we arrived there weren't any and every time we drove to Antequera there were police and firemen picking up bits of cars that had crossed the central reservation!

Re: Things that have changed since you lived in Spain
I agree with most of the above, but for me its not so much 'things that have changed since i lived in spain' but more so' how i have changed since living in spain'
I moved aross at 29 years old and will be celebrating my 40th birthday next year!
i have grown considerably and my wants and likes and priorities have changed.
I came across as part of a couple and we enjoyed our 'early retirement' to the full.
after 5 years of living like this, we decided we were finally ready to start a family, having done all the travelling etc we had wanted.
We now have 2 wonderful children 3 years and 1 year old.
Life is now different, in a way i could only have imagined. Now the heat is less tolerable because the children need catching to put the lotion on, and their time needs limiting outside in the heat.
They go to bed at 7.30pm so are missing out on lots of activities band birthday parties that all start 9/10pm!!
There are many many things now, that whilst we loves Spain, are feeling it is no longer for us.
Thankfully, we left the UK to experience a new life abroad, so was never of the YUK type of people, so to speak, and equally enjoy it back in the uk.
After having spent the last 5 weeks in the UK, the first time in 10 years, we have really enjoyed being able to spend more time outdoors, yes seriously, activities such as soft play, petting farms, fetes, and so forth, and also spend time with cousins, go to parties that start at 3pm and so on.
For us, Spain treated us well as a couple but now, we feel the UK can offer us more.
Fortunately we are in a position where we can choose to live where we like, so it just goes to show you really can never say never!

Re: Things that have changed since you lived in Spain
Karen,
The same thing happened to our son when they had children and were living out here. After much soul searching and heartache they decided to go back to UK because they felt the children, same age as yours, would benefit more, growing up with their cousins nearby and all the things you have listed.
They have been back there nearly two years and love it. We miss them but can get over to see them easily enough and meet up for big family holidays together. With Skype, you see the grandchildren change physically on a regular basis so it isn't a shock any longer as it must have been in the past for people like us.
There was a time when my son, who has lived more abroad than back in the UK, swore he would never live there but ...as you say...you can never say never, things change, circumstances and needs alter as you grow .

Thanks Julie. And Anis. Your son and his families story sounds very similar to where we are at, so it is great to hear that after 2 years back they are still enjoying it and it is all they expected it to be. Thanks for sharing.

It goes a long way to seeing how nice and relaxed the Spanish really are.Julie wrote:I learned to speak Spanish, now Spain a different place altogether for me , not sure if that is better or
worse
Personally, I think everyone living here should learn it...even if it's basic to start with.
