Why was everything shut today?

Postby EdX20 » Sat Sep 08, 2012 7:58 pm

I tried to get some hardware & sports shopping in today, but everything was shut and the roads deserted in Malaga. I checked the list of holidays but nothing listed for today or Monday. Anyone know what the reason is?

Strange - most places in Antequera were shut, but just down the road in Archidona it was business as usual.... :?

Same up here but it's Extremadura Day. All the supermarkets etc. are shut but the Co-Operativa is open. ¿Que?

I found out that in Antequera it wasn't Asturias day, but La Patrona la Virgen de Los Remedios :)

Sounds like it's a 'Let's have a holiday and call it what you like day".

Ah thanks folks - I saw the Día de Asturias listed but stupidly assumed that only applied in Asturias. It's great to see the country working so hard to pull itself out of the recession :lolno:

p.s. If you think the holiday system here is complicated, you should try my native Scotland, where every town and village has its own local holidays, and the national ones usually don't coincide with the English bank holidays. A commercial traveller/delivery driver's nightmare!

Now why on earth would Scottish holidays coincide with English ones ? Local holidays were a nightmare when I was in retail, no one ever knew what that area opening times would be so stayed away till mid day then gone from shops by 4pm. No consistency even in the region .... oh that sounds just like Spain :-)

Hit Andalucia late on Tuesday night, but have been told the local Marcadona is closed on Wednesday.

Wonder why, strike, another holiday ?
