New keys problem
Hi guys.
I have a 'key' problem. They are changing the lock on the entrance door to our apartment block but providing 2 keys only per apartment. I need more than this as I live in the UK and only visit occasionally so while I'm away, I have friends who live locally who keep an eye on things for me. Plus I need a key and wouldn't mind a couple of spares.
The trouble is the key is an 'STS' key - station to station - which is basically a cryptographic key that can't be duplicated! I'm pretty peeved about the fact that I own this property but am being told how many keys I'm allowed but my main problem is that I simply NEED more keys!
Is there any way I can persuede the community to let me have more keys or get spares cut myself from somewhere? I'm pretty desperate.... Thanks in advance

Re: New keys problem
I would imagine it's a problem with the cost.
Offer to pay for more keys.

7.50 € per key apparently so that's not the problem ..... thanks for your response though.

Bugs I don't know how many in your community but if everyone wanted extra free keys it would soon add up,another 20 keys= 150e.Sorry I can't help more...I cant think of any valid reason why they should act this way.
I suppose you could always say you've lost your keys and ask for 2 more!

Bugsbunny,
http://www.stslocks.com/?page_id=54&lang=en
So you need the Warranty card and find the Authorized centre.

Re: New keys problem
Thank you Enrique. Now of course I wonder how to get hold of the Warrenty Card.... Should the community provide me with this information?
Re: New keys problem
Whoever originally bought the keys would have been given the card at time of purchase.
It is a security measure such that new keys will only be supplied to the card holder.
Cheers

Re: New keys problem
Thanks Gerry. Do you think it's right that our community should be restricting keys like this? Is this the norm do you think? I understand about the security aspect of course but because of my circumstances, I'm not around to keep an eye on things myself so rely on other people doing it for me - and they all need a set of keys....

Would it not be better to ask them directly

Re: New keys problem
In an ideal world absolutely. But I'm in England and don't speak much Spanish - this apartment is only mine through inheritance you see. It will sort itself out hopefully.
Re: New keys problem
For heaven's sake, just contact the Administrators (in English if you have no Spanish), tell them you need so many extra keys and are willing to pay for them, and ask how you go about obtaining them.

Re: New keys problem
I am sorry to have bothered you. A friend who lives locally has already asked this question for me. The issue is he has been told I'M NOT ALLOWED more keys, hence the problem. Why is it when I come on here some people can be so curt with me? I was only asking for a bit of advice as I was wondering if this was normal, that's all.
For the people that have tried to help me, thank you - I very much appreciate it. I apologise for asking such seemingly idiotic questions and waisting your time writing such a stupid post.

Re: New keys problem
Hi Bugsbunny
Most of us are friendly and helpful.
It's up to the community to decide how many keys each person can have.
If only having 2 keys is a problem then there is a way around it.
Have a second lock fitted and get how many keys you need for the lock.
Do not use the original lock, just use the new one.
Cheers

Re: New keys problem
Hi Gerry and thank you.
It's the lock on the entrance to the building that is being changed - the communal door from the street. So sadly this isn't an option. I do appreciate your help though.

Re: New keys problem
Sorry to "pop" your solution, Gerry, but the OP said it was the EXTERNAL door lock that was replaced with only two keys per apartment
Re: New keys problem
If all else fails I'd just take a key to the shop, act dumb and tell them to cut a key.
You've lost the warrant card, show them id,wave some cash about and the Spanish penchant for taking money and flaunting authority will resolve the situation.

Re: New keys problem
Ha ha thanks Nimrod. Worth a go I reckon although my friend who lives locally has already tried the local hardware stores with no luck and has been pointed in the Malaga direction....

Re: New keys problem
Unfortunately Nimrod due to the high security of the Lock/key that will not be an option.
