Yes, that's certainly good news - not often something comes down in price, especially utility bills!

Since my electricity meter was changed for one of the new "smart" meters at the end of December, my consumption has mysteriously increased by around 25%, a friend of ours says his bills went up a lot after his meter was changed too, and I've just read a letter in the new edition of The Olive Press from someone else who has experienced this. I am dubious about the wisdom of complaining to Endesa about this as I fear they might say it was my old meter which was faulty and hit me with a large bill for past years, and I have no way of proving it wasn't. Has anyone else had the same problem, and if so have you queried it with Endesa?

Doesn't this epitomise Spain.

Our campo leg of electric pylons includes one that has broken at the base. I asked our village alcalde to report it. No he says they won't do anything till the power fails. At that point I dare say I will have to pay for the repair.

And that is why people just keep their head down here.

I just accept whatever the bill says like (I suspect) everyone else does. I have been watching on another forum the agro a user has had with his new SMART meter - the fault is always the customer and therefore their responsibility. We are all due to have these smart meters.

Poor man, it almost makes me feel I am getting off lightly! I've been doing some reading up on these meters on the net, and apparently the experience of consumers in the USA shows that one third of people who have smart meters installed find that their bills shoot up - some of them have bills doubled or even tripled

I wonder if some Spanish consumer groups will take up this issue as more and more of these meters are installed in Spain - I can't imagine people in the depths of this recession are going to be at all happy at finding their bills going up enormously in this way.

The efficacy of the smart meter would concern me. I love the concept of everything being the customers fault.

"From the 1st April electricity prices are down 6.7% "

Perhaps to coincide with a possibly levy on bank accounts of 6.7% ?

No, it's because they have been making higher profits since the introduction of smart meters. :shh:

And no doubt they will increase the standing charge (which is not government controlled) to make up the difference.

Does this reduction apply to all electricity supply or only to regulated supply?

I don't know but I doubt that they will reduce the free market tariffs apart from maybe offering better discounts to change supplier.

This link, posted by Katy, makes it clear that the price reduction applies to consumers on the TUR tariff, and not those in the free market.

Having just got access to Endesa online and being able to analyse I am amazed at the cost of electricity.
Using an example of 100kw in a month my bill would be 33.26 euros. At my house in the UK the bill would be 18.95 euros (British Gas).

The prices may be changing again.

It is suggested that the standing charge will increase by 77% and the unit charge decrease by 23%.
