I take it, the 19% element is still good for the 2019 return ?

Last year I completed the 210 form, printed them off and took them to the bank and made payment. I have just completed and printed off the forms for 2019 & as I will not be going to Spain this year I emailed them to a friend and sent him money to make the payment. He went to his bank with the forms and the cash, and subsequently sent me the following message ' when we get to the desk, very nice young lady, we explained the problem she took the paper work looked through it and asked us for a slip that has a bar code on, as this is not a bill, we said that we did not have one so she showed us a slip and told us we needed one of these, gave us our paper work back and said very sorry. So it looks like you will have to do some more home work because we need a bar code before we go back'.
So have I done something wrong here? Just to confirm my friend has been sent the completed 210 form, which appears identical to the one I did the previous year! Just for information I sent the completed forms to my friend via jpeg attachments on an email, and for some reason there were problems in opening them up and printing them off, might this have caused an issue? I can see that there are bar codes on the 210 form. Might I have done something wrong when I did the 'validate and generate PDF'? Could I have done this but not saved it & thus caused a problem? Or did my friend get someone at the bank not doing what they should have done? Or could it be something else? I have thought of posting the forms to my friend in Spain, but this seems a bit bizarre! Any help much appreciated

Hi Yogibear,
Save your copy to computer as its a .pdf file and attach that to an email to your friend.

Sounds like they (the Bank) can't read the Bar Code.

Hi Enrique,
Thanks for the prompt reply. All this on line form filling is not my specialist area, to be honest I have no idea if I saved these when I completed them, and if I did I have no idea how you would retrieve them! That said, I could go on the tax web site again and complete the forms and then validate and generate a PDF and then save it..................would this work? If so do I just bin the ones I have done before and then send the pdf to my friend?
Many thanks

Hi Yogibear,
Your data should still be online ?

You can Generate as may Forms as you like, it's only the one you take to the bank that counts.

Redo , Save Data ,........ :!: thought :!: the .pdf file may be on your system from your first attempt have a look :?:

You may also have the EXAMPLE........... X1234567Y_2019_0A.210 ....... Data file on your system so only need to Import it into a Blank Form 210

Validate and Generate .pdf copy.

I would suggest you generate the forms in Spanish and include the first two pages which explain the procedure. On the odd occasion that we take these forms to a different bank for payment we have to go through a tutorial with the bank clerk on how to process them. You certainly do not require a separate piece of paper showing the bar code.

There are now very few banks that will accept these forms for payment by cash. It varies from bank to bank from town to town but the only one locally that will do it is Sabadell.

You should also check with your friend that when he opens the pdf it actually shows a bar code. Sometimes, when sending this type of form as an email attachment, the bar code is lost and replaced with a number of different keyboard characters and symbols. Acrobat Reader is particularly bad and I never use it.

When next in Spain you should consider obtaining a digital certificate. This makes the submission of the forms and payment of the tax far easier provided that your bank account was opened with your NIE number and not your passport in which case not even this will work.

Hi Beachcomber,
Many thanks for this. It looks like the issue is with the bar code! That said I am confident I can now get this sorted.Though there are many things I love in Spain, going to the bank is not one of them.......I lose the will to live!!

Hello, could anyone help or advise with this please. Due to Covid I cannot see us returning to Spain this year to complete non residents tax forms. We completed last years on our computer in Spain following Beachcombers instructions and took 4 forms (one each for the property and garage) to the bank and paid. That was our first year as non resident, we were resident prior to that. A lot has happened in the last year but I seem to remember taking the completed forms to Cajamar to pay(we have an account at Cajamar), the bank teller processed the forms, scanned the bar codes etc. and gave us our copy and said all done. I offered my bank card as payment and he said I don’t need that it’s paid. I cannot think of any other bills that we would have paid that way. Was there a link from the form to our bank account via the bar code? We were impressed by the technology and didn’t ask. If we remember this correctly (and has this happened with anyone else?) then would it seem possible if we completed the forms in the UK, posted them to a friend for them to take to Cajamar without the need for us to transfer any money to our friend? There must be lots of non residents in this same situation. As far as I know we do not have a digital certificate, Thankyou for any advice with this.

Hi Rosaline,

When you paid last time the Teller would have entered your account details and the scanned forms associated with it.

Your current case, File in Forms ,print off in UK , Mail to Friend. Get their (Friend) Bank Account Details and transfer them the Monies . They can then pay in any accepting Bank.

Next time you're over get a Digital Signature so you can in future Pay On-line.......

The FAQ on Obtaining a Digital Signature is out of Date......here is Gerry's and my experience recently......Gerry holds the Time to Obtain Record..

"Here is my experience today of obtaining a new digital certificate.
Went into https://www.sede.fnmt.gob.es/en/certifi ... ona-fisica , filled in the required details and printed off the email I received with the code.
Went to the office in Velez Malaga, waited less than 5 mins to be seen.
Showed them the printout and my original NIE cert, plus photocopy, Passport plus photocopy.
All they wanted to see was my original NIE cert.
Entered details on their PC.
No paperwork produced or signature needed.
Received an email a couple of mins latter with a URL and verification code.
Went shopping.
Got home and entered the URL plus my verification code, downloaded and installed the certificate.
Certificate worked OK.
All done in less than 2 hours.
Probably would have been quicker if I had not gone shopping.
Cheers
Gerry"

Thank you Enrique, looking at beachcombers instructions again we probably completed the ingreso section to pay from our bank account. So if we leave that blank, transfer the money to our friends Spanish bank, then they can pay it. Now just need to try and complete the forms on the iPad. Thanks

Apologies if this question has been answered before but I have searched through this topic and not been able to find an answer.

What is the worst that can happen if I don't pay my non-residents tax on time this year? I've paid it faithfully for each of the previous 12 years but I don't expect to be back in Spain this year.

If there really is no way in which you can arrange for payment to be made this year just pay it when you can. You just pay the same amount and AEAT may, or may not, impose a fine and surcharges at any time in the next five years as calculated in the FAQ.

You should consider obtaining a digital signature on your next visit. This will enable you to ensure that you do not miss any notifications and will also enable you to pay online if you should be unable to visit at any time in the future as long as your bank details match your NIE number.

Many Thanks Beachcomber. I suppose I could fill out the form and choose to pay directly from my bank account in Spain (I usually pay in cash) and ask our Administrator to take the form to the bank for me if I emailed it to them. Is there any reason why that would not work (as long as the Administrator agrees)?

I think that in order for the payment to be made from your bank account in this way you must present the forms personally. The best way would be to send him the money and ask him to make the payment in cash. In this case it would not necessarily have to be your own bank.

Hi all, with the help of this thread I have successfully completed my Modelo 210 for the past few years so THANK YOU!

I have just completed the online form for my 2019 return but think its wrong and I need to do it again (I haven't paid it yet)

I have two questions... the first is that my valor catastral seems to be reducing each year.. it was the same in 2016 and 2017, less in 2018 (although I didn't realise and used the previous figure) I did not receive an IBI bill for 2019 (they took the DD, I just didn't get an actual bill) but I have the one for 2020 and the amount is lower again so I am not sure what to declare.
Shall I use the value on the 2018 bill? I'd rather overpay than underpay!
If I ask the town hall for a copy they just give a print out of the amount due, not the whole bill which shows the valor catastral etc

My second question is that my current IBI bills says 'ano v catast/ano ult rev 2020/2008'... does that mean I need to declare 2% instead of 1.1%? I received a bigger than average bill in 2015 because they have made revisions to previous years and charged the extra for each year but the bill reads as though it was only revised in 2008. If so I messed up last year because I didn't notice and declared at 1.1% : (

Just want to be sure I get it right so would appreciate any advice!

Thank you in advance : )
