What's up with all the Chumbas (Prickly Pears). All around us they have got some dreaded white fungus and are dying....... v. rapidly. Is this the end of the Prickly Pear I ask?

Fascinating article - I knew cochineal came from an insect but I thought it was the cockroach
Now if only I could stop itching.....

We've been plagued by them most evening since late summer. They are small enough to squeeze through the fly screens and love the lights in the house. If you crush them they stain fabric and walls, so can be quite damaging.
Hopefully the colder weather and some rain will see them off.

With these for the chumbas and a couple of pandas for the bamboo life would be so easy :D

If they are on your chumbas also checkout the trunks and branches of any nearby citrus trees. We had trouble with them a few years ago.
