I was seriously asking what would happen regarding our residency and border control if UK voted out. And how long would it take?

Katy does have a point. Having lived in Spain 14 years, you will be entitled to take up Spanish Citizenship.

My problem with the original question is that I cannot foresee The UK ever leaving the UE.

From my own point of view, As long as I remain married to my wife, it makes no different to my rights/situation if the UK are in or out of the EU.

Nether can I. As I said it may all collapse before then. Despite all the propaganda coming out of Brussels the Eurozone is not out of the wood yet.
