Brittany ferries new economy service

Postby Jenny1960 » Sun Mar 16, 2014 8:30 pm

We've just booked our June crossing on the new economy service with Brittany ferries which starts at the end of this month.
Normally, we pay £1,700 return for a dog friendly room and large motor home.
The economy ferry is £908.00 for the same service except it's not as posh!
I've been told it's a lovely ferry with bars, entertainment, duty free etc but no waiter service, just self service in the restaurants. Sounds ok to me, we have an en suite outside dog friendly cabin but I'll let you know when I've done it!

Thanks for posting this information. I thought I'd missed the boat (haha) on a pet friendly cabin this year and was resigned to driving through France but now we are going to book on this new economy crossing today hopefully

Your welcome Costa!
Thats exactly how we found out about it. All the dog friendly cabins were full but, they called me the next day and told me about this new ferry. Hope you enjoy your crossing, I'd be interested to know what its like

Well I have booked it today but we don't go until July.

I emailed them about a month ago asking if there was any chance they might release some more pet friendly cabins and they said no but to keep checking back for any cancellations. Then fortunately I saw your post. Thanks again.

Hi could you please give more details of your journey, we would like to take our 2small dogs on holiday with us next year hopefully for a month but have no idea how to start, we live in surrey and would like to make the journey as short as possible. Sorry to ask but what's the toilet arrangements for the dogs ? How long is the crossing ? Where do you go from and land and how long is the drive to say Galera
Thank you in advance

Hi Daisymay,
Plenty of time to plan...............
I too live in Surrey and find the Portsmouth Port the shortest route.
The Journey to Santander takes 26- 27 hrs or 22 -24hrs on the Normal sailings.

Dogs will need Pets Passports............

If that is Galera Granada then its circa 10Hrs 30 mins drive plus stops.
There are dog friendly Hotels at the following places, I use these.
Lerma south of Burgos about 4 1/2 hrs from Santander or Santa Ana south of Madrid circa 6 hrs from Santander.

On board the ferry there are restricted dog exercise areas. I've not used the Pet Friendly cabins as sharing that size space with three huskies in not something I wish to repeat having done it in a Hotel room in UK.

Any other questions please ask as I've been travelling with my dogs for some years always on Brittany Ferries.

Like the other posters on this thread I've booked on the ETRETAT for my next trip in May. No Dogs this time........... :(

This is great! I was wondering what happened to dogs on the ferry, I was told they had to be elsewhere on their own which I wasn't keen on at all. He's not a big dog so I'd be happy to share a cabin with him. Fab! Thanks for posting this up :) :) :)

Hi,
Some current info..............

http://www.brittany-ferries.co.uk/economie

If you're thinking of using this service then get booking as its very popular.
Trying to reschedule a booking they are all booked up end of this month and early June.

Reports back from friends who used them last week, very good .

Just a quick question, may be a daft one but, where do doggies on a ferry go and do their business?

Hi ElVochoClassico,

There are dedicated areas for the dogs to be "exercised", they are situated on the upper decks.

Ah great, I was worried he'd have to sit with his legs crossed for the whole journey ;)

Our old dog, the dear, late Polly, would almost do that! She had an aversion to doing anything without grass or soil beneath her. Steel deck-plates and a strong breeze just did not get her going. Eventually she would have to go but only as a last resort poor thing. Mind you she was about 15 years old at the time.
Brian.
