Go to the grave in an attractive and well preserved body? Rather skid in sideways, women on each arm, champagne and credit card in each hand, body thoroughly used, abused, totally worn out and screaming …."WOO HOO, WHAT A RIDE"

Re: Gerald Brenan
That's the filling station and hostal complex on the left as you leave Alhaurín. Gerald Brennan's house was on the opposite side of the road somewhere near there.
More recently the owner of a nearby estate agent lived in it for a while.

Maybe my eyes deceive me. I thought Detourer was asking about his house in Alhaurín el Grande.
It is along one of the lanes opposite La Peñita. I don't think you can see it from the road and it is not open to the public.

So, how many houses was he supposed to have had then
Is it like Jane Austin where several places claim the fame!

Re: Gerald Brenan
Somebody pointed it out to me once a long time ago.
It is where Beach says, but further up the hill on one of the lanes ..and as you go up , it is a corner house on the right hand side of the road. I don't recall the name of the street and am sorry the info is so sketchy. The house is not marked with a plaque.

With the helpful comments of Beachcomber and anis I have found the street [lane] in Alhaurin, but not the actual house…..although there are only a few….. I will ask when I catch someone on a doorstep.
The house in Yegen where he lived is dedicated thus…..
“In this house for a period of seven years [1920-1934] lived the British Hispanist GERALD BRENAN, who universalised the name of Yegen and the customs and traditions of La Alpujarra. The Town Hall, grateful, dedicates this plaque.”
YEGEN, 3 JANUARY, 1982
His later house in Churriana is easy enough to find, where the likes of Bertrand Russell, VS Pritchett Hemingway, Orson Welles, Laurence Olivier and Vivien Leigh visited and stayed.
It’s perhaps a shame that Brenan house in Alhaurin is not indicated in some way [maybe the owners would rather not have the likes of me looking, pointing and picture taking.] But at least he is well acknowledged by the main road, that the small street is off, being dedicated in his name.
Great books of his times in Spain……………

How very timely, given that I'm currently reading South From Granada and re-reading (in between times) The Spanish Labyrinth. GB's ashes were (I believe) interred at the English Cemetery, so I always send a greeting his way when passing by.

Can any of these photos help you?

Re: Gerald Brenan
Think I can give you more specific instructions now Deturer, having asked a friend who lives near the house.
He said, go a little past frog and toad bar, heading away from town and take the road on the right going uphill. You will go under a small bridge carrying pipe work - keep heading up hill, there are very few houses there and it is the corner on the left. It is a big house with large trees, mature garden. He thinks that there is a plaque on the wall.
