My Spain,Not Your Spain or His Spain or Her Spain..My Spain.
A short update on my Life in Spain..
Well first of all I'm still here.!
And Yes I must admit that Mrs.B and I have had fleeting thoughts about 'upping sticks' and moving to France or somewhere exotic like Hull.
But despite the quite constant irritating minor problems I personally still really love my life here in Sunny Spain, and I've come to the conclusion that life here is still much more 'laid back' than UK, and it would be quite difficult to find somewhere better.
I do realise that everyone has different circumstances, and for many, returning to UK would be the best solution , but fortunately we can still live a good full life here, OK maybe we actually live quite simplistic uncomplicated lives...but it is really good.
I am now aged 69...I like that number ..in Bingo terms ..6 and 9 ..69..anyway up.!.
What I like here is the fact that all ages mix well together, last week we spent the day out in the Campo with a group of Spanish people, the youngest was 6 months and the eldest 93 ..and what a great day we had..
Well I could rattle on all day about my life here, but I don't want to bore anyone....
Anyway may I wish you all a pleasant and safe day...wherever you are ..
Regards,
Gordon.

Too True! Live life as if you are going to be dead forever. Not many of us do ...
Re: My Spain,Not Your Spain or His Spain or Her Spain..My Sp
We're still here, too - 3 years now! We feel the same way, fleeting thoughts of moving but the pros of staying here outweighing the cons. Gorgeous weather today - that helps!
I am nearly as old as you Gordon

Good to read your post Gordon. I'm still here too. I've had family problems and some difficult times and moments when I wanted to scream at the chaotic bureaucracy here, but I have never considered going back to the UK.
I've seen lots of people move here and later decide to return to the UK and can understand many of the reasons. I came here to have an adventure before I was too old and Oh! Boy! am I having one. I also thought I was retiring and would be sitting in the shade of a vine with a good murder book and a bottle of something pleasant. I don't have much time for that though; there is so much to do.
I have been exceptionally lucky. I've got terrific neighbours and live in a smashing village surrounded by beautiful countryside. One of my best friends is 3 years old and another is 86.
Despite getting old and creaky I think that if I could just find a decent recipe for lemon curd life would be idyllic.

Im in the torrevieja area at the mo for my cousins funeral. she has lived here tens years and died suddenly last week in her early 60,s she died while sunbathing on her terrace. Exactly what she would have picked! blood clot went to her lung. no warning just gone like that in a moment. she certainly lived life to the full and as they say "lived her dream" so yeap be thankful you made it. did what so many others dream about doing. no wheres eutopia yes some things annoy me! but just over one year on from moving here we are settled and happy. no intention in the near future to go anywhere.

I would have picked to live longer than my early sixties, shame.

Lemon curd recipe:
6 oz sugar
2 eggs
2 lemons (juice and grated rind)
4 oz unsalted butter, melted.
Whisk eggs and sugar till smooth.
Add lemon juice and rind, plus melted butter
Whisk again to mix well.
Microwave for a couple of mins, remove and whisk
Repeat a few times till it bubbles up, and/or coats back of spoon (sticks to it)
Done!
If you need to use loads of lemons, make up batches and freeze the curd to keep it fresh.

Do any of you cookery gurus have a recipe for slow cooked lamb pie? I had it for lunch in London last week and it was scrumptious.

I would guess that the lamb is cooked separately for a long time - lamb shanks perhaps - and then assembled into a pie.
We are getting off topic here, much as I like meat pies! Perhaps we need a pie thread.

Been here in Spain for 10 years now, very content with our life here. The only thing I would do differently is not to have fallen for the fostered dogs! We now have 6, we are certainly not adopting anymore!!

Helloooooooooo
Popped in and saw your post Gordon.
We have been here for just over a year now, and I have just returned from the UK , our daughter gave birth last month to our first Grandchild.
Whilst I loved seeing everyone, and being with the new baby, I could not wait to get back here. Apart from family, the UK holds nothing for me.
So I am with you, love it here
