A gota fria on the way?
A gota fria on the way?
Oh no! We have guests arriving on Sunday, flying into Malaga, please tell me what I have just read isn't going to happen.

Re: A gota fria on the way?
We don't normally have a Gota Fria down here - it's a phenomenon that happens mainly up on the east coast although it could happen anywhere.
All that is forecast is some very heavy rain on Sunday, mainly later in the day and overnight. Obviously the amount will depend on where you are, but it doesn't look any worse than what we had a week or so ago. They are forecasting 40mm for the Axarquia. It could be a bit windy as well.

'a bit windy' El Cid?! ... meteomalaga forecasting 7-10 Bft!!!
Re: A gota fria on the way?
The rain has got moved on into the evening. Worse thing looks like the easterly wind during the day with gusts up to 67 kmph in the afternoon. Temperatures for tomorrow look OK though, in the 20s.
Last time we had very strong easterlies it blew a huge concrete viga almost off our terrace pergola. It is so heavy we've not been able to replace it in the proper position again. The conservatory doors bowed in and we had to open all the door to let the wind through and out the other side!
Monday looks like it's going to be cold and wet though.

Hmmm, brilliant. I didn't want to go over next week and now I can give SWMBO a rollocking for making me leave comfy autumnal Lancashire for a gota bloody fria, with probably an air traffic controllers strike lobbed in for good measure.

I'm going by this DA
http://www.aemet.es/es/eltiempo/predicc ... ox-id29091
but it has changed a lot since yesterday when Sunday was supposed to be very wet all day but now doesn't look too bad. It's certainly very nice at the moment here and it looks brighter and warmer after Tuesday.
Are there more ATC strikes to come?

Re: A gota fria on the way?
Only joking about the ATC, probably tempted fate though now.
Even if it does lash it down I'd personally prefer that than constant 40+ temps, one of the reasons we never went across this summer.
Only there for a fortnight this time to see a few people and sort a few bits and bobs out so a bit of gota fria may spice things up!!

I can't see any forecasts showing a F10. F8 is more likely and that will be out at sea. Gusts can be a problem though. The worst of the wind will be around lunch time but it will shift through 180º very quickly and go west and much less - that's when the heavy rain should arrive.

Re: A gota fria on the way?
Yes, I know you were. That is just a private local weather station and is very good for what has happened or is happening. It is not a forecasting station, they just grab a basic forecast from other sources.gavilan wrote:El Cid ... I was referring to : http://www.malagaweather.com/ forecast for tomorrow/Sunday ...
There are far better sources of accurate forecasts than that.

Point taken EC!
Re: A gota fria on the way?
I am semi-re-assured..........I think. Meeting our friends flight at 11 tomorrow morning then was hoping to take them to Malaga for a couple of hours, rather than head straight home. I will keep everything crossed it stays dry till the evening. Thanks all xx

It might be tempting fate but so far I have had more wind after a pickled onion...El Cid wrote:The worst of the wind will be around lunch time but it will shift through 180º very quickly and go west and much less - that's when the heavy rain should arrive.gavilan wrote:'a bit windy' El Cid?! ... meteomalaga forecasting 7-10 Bft!!!

Same here - about 10kts maximum. However, we are quite high up and look out over the sea. It is blowing a good Force 7 out there. Not a good day to be out on a boat!

Umm, just looked at Aemet for Iznate and it is forecasting 60.5 of rain at 2200 this evening. I hope that isn't inches...

Re: A gota fria on the way?
Just a light shower really! Two years ago we had 150mm in 40 minutes!
Looking at the weather radar, the rain hasn't got much past Gib yet, but beware once the wind changes to the west. Around midnight looks like the heaviest.

Re: A gota fria on the way?
It's at its worst about 10 or 11pm for us according to AEMET. We have battened down the hatches, got our wellies and mop and bucket out at the ready
