Did notice some window-covering when I last drove past. Assumed it was refurbing.
The rent must have been huge . . . unless the Chinese owned the building to start with . . .

Does anyone know when the French are taking over i.e. the store is changing ID, no sign of such today.

Just like to say Adios Eroski, never liked the store!

Our two nearest were in Antequera or Montilla, because it was quite a trek for us we always got there after 2pm probably explains why there was only ever one till open. Never found the places inviting, bread always looked as if it was baked last week, the International foods were vastly over priced. We had been to the store in El Ingenio Torre del Mar a few of times, they had a sign up proclaiming to open up another till if were if a there were more than three people in a queue.

We used to shop in Eroski in Alcoy ( Alicante/Valencia Province)years ago and found it to be a good well stocked supermarket, but we were really disappointed when we started using the Eroski store in Antequera, it is a bit like going on board the Marie Celeste...deserted ,even difficult to find a member of staff.
The only good thing is the large amount of 'reduced' items ..if you are brave enough to chance them.!
We really now find that we don't have to travel that far for shopping, local is good and Mercadona/ Lidl have 99.9% of what we need.....

Gordon

I was in Eroski, in El Ingenio today and, according to the checkout girl, Carrefour are not now buying Eroski.

They have bought the smaller branches though as Dia (part of Carrefour) have taken over the local small Eroski stores. Perhaps it was a different arrangement for the Eroski superstores like the El Ingenio one.

Picked up a copy of Spanish SUR this week (Sat 26 Nov), and there is confirmation there that the purchase is going ahead, and the next two large branches for swap-over will be Antequera and El Ingenio, if I read it right.

Not doubting what you said, or what the checkout girl said, but time will tell as to whether SUR or the staff at Eroski in El Ingenio have got the story correct.
This being Spain it's anybody's guess as to what might happen.

So did you ask or over hear a conversation?

I do not listen to other peoples conversations.
I asked the checkout girl when the take over was happening, and she said it wasn't.

I never said you were listing in on someones conversation. So your saying you walk around and never overhear another conversation. Those hearing aids you have must be extremely poor quality Gerry.

The one up the road to me is in the process of being changed to a carrefour as we post. Shut as eroski last week & re-opens as a carrefour on the 13th--

It will save a trip to Rincon if the El Ingenio one does change, but not sure it's as big.

I think it is an order of magnitude smaller but there is that space behind the TVs that they have used for pool displays and IIRC garden stuff, opening that up will make it considerably larger.
Anyway small is beautiful.

Oh but it's exciting going to the Big Store once in a while and spending half a day looking at everything :)

I make the trek down there every couple of months to stock up on cat food as they have good offers on it, but hopefully they do the same ones here. It's just that they do a few different things that we don't get in the supermarkets here so it just makes a change.
