Guys using a hand fan?
Something I've never seen. Plenty of women using the ubiquitous hand fan as things start to get warmer, but has anyone seen a guy using them.
Is it something that "ISNT DONE"
I'm seriously thinking about getting one since this time of year I seem to suffer quite badly with hot flushes.

Just do it.
As long as you don't wear socks with your sandals, you'll be fine.

And I would suggest not wearing kimono either.
Re: Guys using a hand fan?
No its not done. I use a beer mat or a menu. You may get some strange looks.
Re: Guys using a hand fan?
What about those little mini battery-run fans from the China Shop?
Re: Guys using a hand fan?
I would suggest you do a search on cooling fan hats. Plenty around. Leaves you with one hand for a drink and the other for filling in your race card
Re: Guys using a hand fan?
I must say it would look a bit odd and I have never seen a man but why not make one yourself and make it a bit macho, as someone has said a newspaper but you could use plastic folded in a fan shape and cover it with newspaper etc. also as someone as suggested those little battery operated ones are very good and also you can get them with water in them which gives off a fine spray. I have also found this site for fans for man which looks good http://www.myhandfan.com/handfans/fansformen.htm and another http://jzool.com/en/c/301-for-men but you could easily make your own with a cheap fan from the Chinese shop.

I've often used a hand fan. Can't say I've ever noticed any strange looks not that it would worry me if I did. I would just feel sorry for the person giving me a strange look..

A fanned out wad of 50e notes works well for me at the start of the holiday, at the end of the holiday it's back to the beer mat idea as suggested above

Martin,
I don't think that you need to worry about losing your 'street cred' by using a hand held fan, extremely doubtful that any Spanish person would make any comment or even notice !
In modern society the preferred type of fan would be plain without any trimmings or adornments , and if you really felt that you need to protect your image I would suggest decorating the fan with Fosters Lager Beermats..
And during my lifetime travels I've witnessed many men using fans and they were able to combine sobriety and elegance without damaging any macho images or appeal....
For instance I noted the Head-hunting Dyak Indians using fans, granted they were fashioned from stretched human skin and decorated with human teeth, but I don't suggest that you have to go that level..!!!
And of course if you are well heeled ,you could always employ a Punkah Wallah to sit in the corner of your abode and waft soothing draughts of air scented with exotic incense over your over-heated body..
My Great Aunt had a shop in East London ,South Africa selling fans made from ivory and exotic plumage, not very PC now, and I apologise for my ancestors misdemeanors ...
Stay Cool.. .
Regards,
Gordon.

The Japanese use them and I have seen Indian men use them too, but as said they are all plain.

Clearly not in Torremolinos. Perfectly acceptable here!patricia wrote: Where is Martin anyway!
Don't worry about what people think, they don't do it very often

Talk about losing 'street cred' I lost mine 12 years ago when we first came to live in our village, I was seen hanging out washing, I was the talk of the village for yonks, the señoras thought it was a hoot.

I often see men fanning themselves with their hats, more often than not, the straw type,........ Good for putting on your head too, with street cred intact

Not one word from Martin. I think he was winding us up, unless he has been blown away by a fan!
