Nuisance Phone Call (Spam)

Postby telboy » Wed Feb 01, 2017 2:06 pm

This used to be a regular occurrence over the years on our landline through Iberbanda, we received many different calls from various parts of Spain which we never answered, we mostly knew when we were getting a genuine call. However for a couple of years these nuisance calls stopped. For just over two weeks now we've been getting a call from this number 944898585 at least eight times a day, hopefully it will stop. Googling the number displays posts from irate Spanish folk with the same problem. The Spanish telephone code 944 is for Bilbao.

We very rarely use our landline as a contact number, it is purely for our family to call us cheaply from the UK.

Is there anyone we can contact to stop this :?:

I have installed one of these:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/TrueCall-Unive ... ll+blocker

Problem solved.

Or a cheaper option:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/CPR-Call-Block ... ll+blocker

There are some more on Amazon.
Let's go Brandon!

Ouch! Expensive !
I tried one at about £40 from Argos - didn't work so full refund. I then realised I could buy a new triple handset from BT for around £70 which includes call blocker technology. Works a dream and no longer any scam calls:-)

Many of the DECT (cordless) phones from Panasonic have a built-in facility for blocking nuisance numbers.
I'm a bit concerned that that Amazon device would block any unexpected number, which could even be from/for someone in an emergency.

The BT system asks callers to announce themselves and then gives us the opportunity to accept or decline before the caller is put through. We can accept one call or all future calls from that number.
Works well apart from a delay in the first call. Even caught me out the other day when I phoned home and realised I had not set up my mobile as a contact :-(
